@Rojas you shouldn't have posted that link.. now I am in a dilemma.. yours is a monster in those pics.. did you prune them hard this year? How did you find it this year?
@WAMS Liliana has that softness to its blooms isn't it.. sadly my new blooms have been munched by something.. Is your mis labelled rose 'Jaqueline du Pre'? They did the same to me last year on Platinum Jubilee.. and I had a meltdown with their scent description, only to realise that it could be mix-up.. they did sent me a tiny specimen (disappointed by Harkness) as replacement which is yet to bloom..
@Nollie Rose de Molinard did not ball for me this year (thanks to the dry weather).. it has been so lanky with buds at the end of tall arching stems.. rich in foilage and few blooms (relatively)..
@cooldoc I don't think Grafin Diana liked hard pruning. Not that many flower buds as the size is only half of what it was last year. The second picture is with Lady of shallot to show the bloom size.
To show the ugly side of Souvenir de la Malmaison. I only got some good blooms on the first year and I have moved it to a pot, keeping it closer to the wall to protect the blooms but that didn't help. I am trying to find an ideal location as the scent is lovely may be I should let it go! Earth angel looks good behind.
..at its worst, it's totally horrid but at its best, it's so lovely.. I used to grow it in the greenhouse where it was a different rose altogether, with no rain.. outside I also had it south facing, and one June it was very beautiful.. conditions were just right then I suppose..
I did like Grafin D and your pictures aremaking me wistful Rojas but as a container rose it really was a handful. Souvenir de la Malmaison definitely off the table so that too is useful info thanks for sharing.
I do want your Fragrant Plum WAMS and have been to RV Roger to put it in the basket twice. Can you recommend it for health and plentiful blooms?
I have disposed of the 5 roses I mentioned upthread and am feeling relieved already with an easier watering load. I did get 10mm in total of rainfall this last week but while welcome is really not enough.
There are roses in here but I post these because I shared with you the new border all bare earth in early Spring. This is making me happy
@WAMS The Range have got 1L Tomorite £4.99 or 2 for £9. Morrisons had it for £4.50. Wilko have the 1L but it’s only available to order online for home delivery but it’s on offer for £3.50.
On the Dark Desire chat, mine is new and so far looks reasonable good. Six canes and six buds in a fairly decent vase shape:
First opened bloom on Wollerton:
Eustacia Vye is a more prolific now:
Hamilton Princess - awesome scent:
Chandos which is 3.5 feet now - had it a year now. Does anyone know why the flowers are less than half the size of the ones on my new Chandos standard? Astrantia Burgundy Manor and Geranium Rozanne at the front. Sweet peas making their way up the wigwam.
The now supported Princess Alexandria:
Anyone have this rose with the issue I am having - lovely puffed up blooms in the morning and late evening like above pic. During the hot day they wilt and look awful. They pick themselves back up in the evening but not a pretty sight during the day. Anyone else find this or is it me not doing something right? I took this one and granted they are wet but they look exactly like this in the daytime heat:
Can I just remind people that if you are using bamboo canes or similar to prop up your roses, it is essential to use cane toppers to save your eyesight.
