'Mme. Falcot'.. has a Dijon Tea look about it.. [related to 'Gloire de Dijon'].. 'Eustacia Vye'.. this rose is due for removal, but it does produce some lovely blooms.. this is the best it's been all summer.. 'Penelope Lively'.. .. a closer look at 'Sweet Silouetta'.. I see similarities to 'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. .low thorn stems.. ... tiny prickles underneath the bud clusters.. serrated leaf edges.. ..growth habit 6' x 2' apparently.. more my cup of tea these days..
I'm hoping to get my new gardener to pot up my new DA Desdemona on Wednesday, weather permitting. Can somebody please remind of the proportions of JI.3 to MPC and manure. Should I also add a couple of handfuls of grit, perlite or vermiculite? Not sure what I've got stashed away in the shed and unable to go and check.
@Lizzie27 ..a 50/50 mix Lizzie, plus a scoop of manure if you have it, but it's not necessary.. plus the drainage as you said.. I only ever have grit, so I use that..
Ah, thanks re BMS @cooldoc, I don’t need another octopus rose, as I have to rethink rose supports anyway. I’ve got away with metal obelisks and fences so far, but they are increasingly getting too hot for the roses to handle.
I’m becoming very familiar with downsizing failures. The siren call of the rose is just too strong!
Mme. Falcot is beautiful @Marlorena. Having seen your post on the other forum, are you happy you have the right one now? My ‘Not Crépuscule’ may not be Not after all, because later growth did start red and blooms now have an apricot cast instead of pale lemon meringue. I need to see more before crawling back to Loubert with an apology, but it could be just youthful Tea variability..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie No, I feel I'm still none the wiser.. I knew Sheila in Oregon has lots of Tea roses and would offer up photos, but it's still not conclusive to me.. I really thought it might be 'Maman Cochet' but likely not.. it seems nothing like the original 'Mme. Falcot' which is a yellow rose, of the 'Safrano' type.. I saw 'Safrano' in a garden recently and mine shows no resemblance.. Looking at Loubert's photo it seems to be the one they've sent me, - I did have doubts on that, and appears to be what is usually sold in Europe under this name..
I did consider 'Mlle. Franziska Kruger' too, but ruled it out.. I do find the blooms strikingly beautiful and there's nothing else like it in my garden.. Oh I'm glad your 'Crepuscule' is reverting to type.. I don't like too many mysteries.
@Eustace Re. 'Comtesse Andre d'Oultremont'.. you made a good call liking it to 'GdeF'.. here's a bloom opened today.. sweetly scented too, much better than stated..
Avalanche Abricot [yr 2] may be my rose of the year. Superb health and vigour, pleasant fragrance, near continuous bloomer/fast repeat, weatherproof, blooms vary from warm cream to apricot to yellow but retain their size even in heat:
Roald Dahl blooms do shrink in heat, some blackspot but excellent vigour and showing great promise for a yr 1 rose:
Lady of Shallot, established shrub but enjoying her new, cooler location:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I really like your Avalanche Abricot @Nollie as well. Alas, definitely no more room for any more roses. Had an unexpected gift of one from my brother which will have to go in a pot.
