@PeterAberdeen I have an evergreen escallonia and a honeysuckle , not really in view to the left, behind my TLA. The honeysuckle is bicolour apricot and dark red so ties the dark red escallonia with the rose. All quite accidental. The escallonia seems fine in a shady spot even though I’ve read it likes sun
@cooldoc yes, the flowers of Louis do open to show yellow stamens. However, this year the rose is much more burgundy and less scented. The weather is much cooler than last year. As this is a new rose it could be either the weather, the age or both. My dealer does not sell the most likely mix up rose, Nigrette. Therefore I am positive I have the right one. There are voices saying Louis and Nigrette are the same anyway ;-).
@SalixGold thank you for mentioning Mary Berry. Made me visit Harkness' website. Now I have a new must have list... but will wait if anyone has both, Mary and Chandos, and compares them.
'Royal Philharmonic'.. I love the scent on this rose and bought it for that reason, perhaps a strong, smoky tea.. and the colour of the blooms.. 'Penelope Lively'.. a shocking pink.. imagine a whole load of this..
I'm cooking dinner so I won't upload all my pics from today! Re Chandos Beauty & Mary Berry, I have both. The scent is about the same for both, and the flowering habits the same. Here is my CB I bought last year @cooldoc
Not flowering but grown back after a haircut.
Last year my MB was definitely white, but in this dreadful 'summer' the currents buds are this colour.
@crighton03 I image the habit of Mary Berry and Chandos are very different - MB being more of a classic HT - sticks with one rose bloom on top? Chandos a wider floribunda? Good to know the scent is about the same for both. Thanks
Hi all, long time no post. It's been a very very busy time with work and home the last month but I've finally had chance to do some gardening! Pruned/deadheaded a few of the roses and started doing a bit of tidying. It's been left untouched for a long time so through all this heavy rain, so it was a bit messy in places.
Think I've decided to leave some of the roses, like Malvern Hills, to develop hips so I'm not deadheading those ones at all.
Royal Jubilee doesn't seem to mind the neglect. Best one at the moment.
Didn't take a photo but I went to our plot today and found the first flower bud on my seed grown rugosas.

@WAMS love your blue world. Especially salvia.
Another downpour going on. Looks like I will get my ironing done but not my hedge cut.
Harkness mentions Mary Berry as having a medium fragrance.

Yes it's the 2021 release.. 'Royal Philharmonic Orchestra'.. on HMF..
Not the same rose as the earlier 1990's Harkness with a similar name..

Near enough the same as Julia Childs! Weird....
