@peteS I can't imagine growing 'Cornelia' in a pot for more than a season, so I doubt you'll get the very best from it, not like this, but worth a try if only short term.. 'Elizabeth' .. ...talking of purple 'Indigo' should open tomorrow if I get some sun..
@Rojas I must get my ladders out again... the garden from above adds a new dimension I think, and we can avoid neighbouring impediments much better..
@bede The height you mention is what I anticipated, but the one I give away 'Tuscany Superb' was well over 6ft, and the one I still have 'Charles de Mills' is also 6ft+. Do you prune them to maintain that height, and it would be very interesting to see photos when they are ready.
My plain-vanilla Tuscany is 6 ft and isn't running after 5 years. I can understand why you gave it or its superb away.
My "Ch de Mills"would be perhaps 6 ft, but flops to a rounded 4x4 ft if not supported.
My "Complcata", I personally would not call a gallica, but would be too big for you. That is flowering now on another thread.
I prune them after flowering just for tidiness and to take out dead wood. I don't think it affects the height much.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand. "Have nothing in your garden that you don't know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
@Marlorena The pot itself is pretty hefty 43cmx50cm, so there should be a few years worth out of it. But one thing's for certain, I'll have to decide the correct spot for it before it's planted up, because once it's full of compost it won't be going very far.
Amazing view of Constance Spry @Rojas, and your Cornelia is always wonderful @Marlorena. Indigo has a beautiful colour there.
I love Jude the Obscure, but I am almost sure it will not be that beauty here, I suspect it will ball up.
Desprez a fleur Jaune is opening and between it and the near Rose de Rescht today the scent is wafting all inside my house.
I found out that I probably put Love Song in the wrong spot, I thought it would be a smaller shrub but I’ve read it’s going to be more than 1,3 meter tall! I think I’ll need to move it, but as of today it is a tiny bush with 4 (four!) buds
Zephirine Drouhin is still tiny, but already flowering for the second flush. The constant rain in the last 2 months didn’t do any good to its foliage, though.
And I finally discovered where I planted Julia Child, lol. I was just wondering where it was when I noticed a couple of yellow buds peeping out from the mess of Valeriana Alba. Though I could not find The Poet’s Wife, lol
As you can see, the leaves on all my roses are ruined from trips and maybe other things. This year a disaster with the raining weather in North Italy.
Ah, I also discovered that I got Purple Lodge from TCL last year, but this is another one I could not find where I planted in the garden. Talking about getting older…
Looking at these roses reminds me why I should pay attention to the likely height and spread...I probably don't have much space left! Thank you @Nollie, the heat-resistance of Purple Lodge/Palais Biron is worth noting. Thankyou @Herbloom for the link which I shall peruse! I noticed @dabolem also has this. Are TL and TCL the same suppliers? Thankyou @edhelka too - it might be that Belle de Crecy would be good as I am a beginner. My Boscobel opened yesterday. Apologies the photos are not too sharp, but those who grow her will know the scent. I was getting a sort of pink lemonade aroma; unassuming but there and delicious.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
My top roses.. 1= I hope to show at the weekend 1= Kew Gardens 3 Marie Nabonnand 4 Mme Antoine Mari 5 Cornelia 6 Mutabilis 7 Ghislaine de Feligonde 8 Lady of Shalott 9 Scarborough Fair 10 Scented Garden I'd like to do another 50..
5 of the worst 1 Jubilee Papa Mailland - a thorny 3 foot stalk with a red bloom on top that balled in the wet - what's the point? 2 Conditorum - historic, interesting and beautiful, but a bloom barely lasts a day.. fine if you have half an acre.. 3 Agatha Incarnate - 1 bloom in 5 years.. 4 The Mill on the Floss - tall lanky stems with clusters on top, if not supported will flop over sideways... best on a wall... lucky if you have one of those.. 5 Viridiflora - sorry, just ugly to my eyes..
..biggest regret... losing ''Secret Garden Musk Climber''.. a rare and superlative musk rose that's now impossible to replace.. criminal negligence on my part..
@Marlorena Your Cornelia is amazing 😍. The more I look at yours I would like to have it in the garden. I'm finding the ladder view/Top view from bedrooms absolutely beautiful as I can see rows full of upright flowers.
Thank a lot to everyone for the lovely comments. I am the only one constantly looking at Constance Spry (PS:my older daughter didn't even step out once to look at them ☹️ where as my mother who has helped to plant out roses missing as she could not see them in person! I've asked/forced my husband to step out to look at anyways) Having shown Constance Spry on the video first she mentioned other roses didn't appeal that much as she had seen the best first. I must admit the climber full of flowers does steal the show. Is it the same among all? Are your family members showing any interest at all to see the flowers?!
