Looks nice @Tack at least yours is ready to open, mine is a little way off yet..
@PeterAberdeen I feel pretty sure you've got the rose called 'Dr. Van Fleet'.. it's usually listed as a climbing rose because it has blooms more like a climber than a rambler and stiffer stems, however it grows much like a rambler.. it was introduced circa 1900 in the U.S. bred by the Doctor.. it was originally called 'Daybreak' but they changed the name.. ... back in the day Peter Beales used to list it as a rambler.. and it's often referred to either way.. some of these types have dual characteristics really..
It flowers on old wood, so if you cut it down then it will flower next summer, if you don't cut it back again..
'New Dawn' is a repeat flowering mutation of it.. which you don't seem to have.. I hope this clears it up for you Peter..
Funny, @Marlorena - when I look up Dr. Van Fleet on UK sites it's called a rambler and on the US sites it's called a climber.
I'm going to call it a Rambler - for as you say, it grows more like a rambler: flowers on old wood.
Love Song is a terrific rose for me @ohdeereme, no fragrance to speak of but very floriferous. @WAMS, glad you are enjoying it too, no idea why it was particularly singled out for the worst sawfly attack ever but yes, great bouncebackability 😆
@Rojas Palais Biron/Purple Lodge is not looking it’s best at the moment (yo-yo weather I think) but very good rain and heat resistance. The edges will fry a little in extreme heat but few roses don’t here and it is close to a stone retaining wall that catches fierce sun from the south.
Soul is heat resistant but rain, not so much. At first it was dreadful in rain but that has improved a lot with maturity and it’s only a fierce deluge that spoils the outer petals now. One thing I will say is that growth is vigorous and upright left to it’s own devices, but I have it espaliered against a low fence and it does produce flowering laterals freely grown that way - you need to start doing that right away when the canes are still flexible.

Here are some bloom close-ups taken earlier in the season, which I rather like. A bit of cheating was involved, playing around with contrast levels:
Love Song:
Palais Biron/Purple Lodge:
Munstead Wood:
Ebb Tide:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Confession time.. I too am guilty of ordering more bare root roses.. included Vichy and new pheno geno roses..
Boscobel..
Wellbeing..
Poets wife..
Natalija.. I am still hesitant to give it prime spot as I feel the scent is not strong enough.. love the colour though..
Domaine de Chantily.. dual tones appearing a bit washed up in sun..
Rosomane Janon (behind the wildflowers).. no scent at all.. will keep for now hoping that the scent will improve in 2nd year, but the lack of scent makes me worry if it will ever have that scent.. apparently all Genrosa series from Guillot are not strongly fragrant.. wonder if you managed to order from them Nollie.. I liked their new orangey introductions..
Jubilee celebration.. upright finally?
Eustacia Vye.. has a smoked peachy colour in rain..
Gabriel Oak..
La France.. balling tendencies.. but love it for the fragrance and almost always being in bloom..
Finally Platinum Jubilee.. strong fragrance.. and hoping its the right rose..
reply from Harkness regarding the registered name;
In the world of plants you can choose to do either of the two options below:
1 register a plant for plant breeder's rights (registered Name)
2. Trademark the name ™
Harkness more often choose to trademark the name over registering it for plant breeder's right due to the cost of plant breeder's right and the length of time it takes.
So in this instance it's a Trademarked name and there isn't a Registered name.
@Marlorena to support your imagination when reading your new book from Sangerhausen: this is their field of tiny, rare historic roses. Of course, the well grown old roses are there, too. I had to recall this picture to push myself again to let go of Mikolas. It produced the first really opening bloom today. Of course. Steeling myself against it.
And one for @WAMS of the Petit Prince. Did you order it already? It came last autumn as bare root and sits in a pot. Such a busy rose. I am a bit slow, should stake it. But concentrating on vole hunting. With measurable success, yeah me.
Scent wise I prefer Pacific Blue. Another last fall bare root purchase in a pot. All from TCL. Back in the days when I was still able to buy what I wanted.
This one is on the shovel prune list. 5 years old and never more than 2-3 blooms. I just cannot part from this colour. Any suggestions for another rose this pink that might do better?
Most of my roses are over but this old Pink Flower Carpet is smothered in blooms - thinks it's a climber rather than a ground cover rose, obviously didn't read it's label!
Flower Carpet? Stunning wall hanging perhaps. I bought a Flower Carpet recently and the plants that arrived were about 70cm. It needs to go in a low bed below a tree so I might need to keep it hard pruned to keep it fitting the space. I hope I haven't chosen a plant too tall.
@cooldoc I was wondering if the fragrance or indeed any aspect of the Generosas lived up to the hype. Guillot ordering hasn’t opened yet but I’m going to get at least a few of those marked ‘puissant’ (***) to ensure some fragrance. I’m looking at Xavier Fraissinette, Notre Dame du Roseaire and Versigny in orangey tones plus Salma Es Saïd, Ventilo and Ladurée in the red/pinks.
How would you rate you Charles de Nervaux for scent, healthy, blooming etc? Guillot give it ** for fragrance. Oh and Rosomane de Janon they also give **
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Weird weather here, cloudy, brooding and ‘only’ 28c but we are forecast 42c by Tuesday 🥵 I shall have a garden full of crispy, dying things if it gets to those levels.
The Prince is already there, my love affair with this tricksy rose may be ending..
Lady of Shalott rather pink and wan:
Julia Child blithely carries on:
Avalanche Abricot, the black fence complements soft colours, here catching a morning ray:

..however, not this so much... I might say, thanks but no thanks if this is typical..
..Penelope L..
..just one bloom opening but..oh wow, the scent, just my cup of tea.. sweet damask with a hint of apple..
I've just ordered this new one from Harkness, it has a fresh lemony scent, I loved it.. new this year..
