Pests, deseases, trials and tribulations of growing roses..
Love Song returning from the dead, leaves were stripped bare by sawflies earlier in the season and it’s had to grow a whole new set and new buds to boot:
Palais Biron (Purple Lodge) earlier blooms were decapitated and destroyed by pollen beetles, new blooms are smaller but are resisting the heat:
But it’s also suffered some cane dieback and is defoliating below:
Still, roses are the great survivors!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Penelope Lively Mark II arrived, no disease and no wool! but it's fine, it seems sturdier but paler than the first one, cut down hard with no buds, I'm guessing it's from a separate batch grown under different conditions. I planted them together in a giant pot. I do like like the blooms. It does seem mad that DA want to maintain a whole batch of potted roses to release in July, I wonder if they'll do this again next year.?
Love Song is one of my favourite new roses, Nollie. Good to hear it has bouncebackability to add to its many other fine qualities!
Your new Penelope L does look nice and healthy, Tack, though no buds is a bit... adjective. I do like the blooms... Not quite as dusky as Bosbocel though.(Bb left, PL right) and I don't think it has the depth/richness of colour of the much larger PAoK. But it's nice.
Really interesting following the thread on new DA and the trials and tribulations of the company. Also 'Damn' at missing TLC with Munster Wood! I'm always the last to know.
Now, for the last time I have an unknown to try and identify. This is the unknown yellow that has been in the garden that I transplanted into the new border and I am delighted to say that it survived its move after about 30-40 years in the same place. I think it is a Hybrid Tea:
Firstly the Bud:
Then opens to a loose flower, but a strong yellow:
That fades paler over a week:
and finally the leaves and shape (if you can see due to the vigorous Lupin):
As always, any help greatly appreciated. It has a medium classic rose scent, with a hint of lemon and seems quite the health 'little soldier' considering the sawfly damage we have been inflicted with.

Rose Eclair: Beautiful pure red blooms with strong scent and love the petal packed flower form.

@Nollie beautiful Purple Lodge. I am intending to get this and Soul. Are they both resistant to rain and heat?! Thank you.
