I'm excited for your Peter ... and that's a lovely bloom on 'The Lark Ascending'.. fascinating centre to it, I don't think I noticed that before.. the bloom is much lighter than you would normally see, it's usually more amber colouring..
Thanks @Marlorena. I know what you mean re the colour. Do you think, as I bought it as a potted rose and it had a fabulous root system, that it has been in the pot for a while and probably been in full sun? Next year it may darken as it is now in part shade - or is that just silly thought and talk?
The single pot of Munstead Wood recently listed on Ebay (mentioned upthread) went in auction for a pledge of £94 in the end. That's not to say that the final bidder will actually pay up. Buyers tend to get very whipped up by the competition of the thing and end by losing their heads. It often happens. But even if the final amount isn't handed over, it shows the hunger for MW is certainly there - fuelled, of course, by the fact that it's been discontinued.
I agree with Marlorena that David Austin seem to have lost the plot, when the one rose that turns up again and again on national lists of best ever roses (magazines, associations, growers), is unceremoniously cut; especially when they haven't brought out anything remotely similar to MW that might in any way compete.
@PeterAberdeen It can vary with rose blooms.. actually looking back at my photos, I have some that are similar to yours.. ..or a darker hue, like this.. Your mum will love it..
@Marlorena thanks! Yes certainly a bit too vigorous! Will cut the nodes back. When you say reduce the framework, do you mean that I take them back to base or reduce it over the top of the arch.
Ooh thanks, @Rojas. They must have sorted it out with DA now. I am desperate to order Crocus so thanks for pointing that out as I doubt I would have checked/emailed again this year!
Thrilled to see such lovely pics of roses like 'Lyda Rose'.. 'Chandos Beauty'.. 'Lady of Shalott' and 'Kew Gardens'.. amongst numerous others..
Both the local and international input is quite something..
Did you know this thread has been going non-stop, 365 days a year, 24/7, for 4 years?.. I first started it in April 2019.. and the first rose I talked about was 'The Ancient Mariner'... it takes some commitment and dedication to keep something like this going, especially during bleak mid winter.. some are seasonal, that's ok too.. we all like a break.. thanks for all the many and varied contributions..
@SalixGold, I have Sweet Honey, it's in it's 3rd/4th year and it's a very healthy plant. Last year it flowered continuously almost from May until November and was unaffected by heat or rain. I moved it last autumn and it seems to have barely noticed although it does have a bit of blackspot this year but so have some others which have not had it before. The buds have quite a yellow tinge to them but it opens to a very soft pale apricot/pink and fades to almost white in the full sun. I can't smell it but I'm assured that that it has a strong scent.
