..cutting an unproductive cane back to a couple of inches from the base, can produce astounding results... this isn't Vanessa Bell, but 'Scented Garden'.. however the principle is the same..
I’m seeing a bit of this on my Strawberry Hill… I first noticed it yesterday and thought it was wilt and the plant needed water. Soil was pretty dry…
So I gave it a good soak last night but there’s no improvement. Is it just from water for should I look for something else? It’s predomantly in 2 canes I *think* and I don’t see any issues with them.
@ciaranmcgrenera The rest of your plant looks ok.. as those few leaves haven't perked up I would check to see if there's an ants nest in your pot... you would see them running up and down the stems at the base and mounds of compost pushed up the cane..
More roses on the way, Ghislaine should be there soon. I've got several roses which appear to be performing much better already this year. Like Gabriel Oak and Eustacia Vye. Royal Jubilee looks like it might provides good first flush this year too.
Although it's warmed up now, it's still been quite cool during the week and particularly at night so the roses are progressing quite slowly.
Found these though this morning, with the boys, very exciting. Evidence of the first dragonflies using our wildlife pond at the allotment!
Found some empty nymph cases left over after the adult dragonflies had hatched out. They were attached to the leaves of the water iris - which I planted specifically for this reason.
..so many fragrant roses, we can't have enough of those, even less than stellar performers can be found a place if scent is the deciding factor.. ..more gorgeous roses above.. and the pond life is just fabulous ...
I gather there's a football match on today, so it may be quiet here for a time.. so here are some more pics from me..
..not everyone likes myrrh/floral.. I do, very much so.. 'Bring Me Sunshine' has it all.. powerful stuff.. sometimes tea.. in its 2nd year I am totally loving this rose, it's everything I want in a yellow.. 'Mutabilis'.. 'Tall Story'... 'Marie Nabonnand'.. 'Kathleen Harrop'.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. 'Sophie's Perpetual' is proving a vigorous rose.. orange basals? who'd have thought?.. 'Lady of Shalott'.. enjoying the sun for a change..
I am in need for and advice about a (small - max 3 m) climbing rose in the apricot/orange colours.
It will go on an arch with sun only in the morning. I saw Bathsheba and Crown Princess Margareta, but I can’ decide between the two, searching for your opinion. Unless you have some other rose better suited for that spot. thanks!

.... delightful, rambling, rose garden..

Peony 'Buckeye Belle'..
I'm delighted you are enjoying 'Guirlande d'Amour'.. it's looking great isn't it..
@Alfie_
.. I'm not sure what you mean really, if I'm honest.. your rose is young and growing, I'd just let it get on with it..
@WAMS
As the shoots are unproductive at the moment, I'd probably cut it back to the lowest node..
Any advice?

In addition to Sarah, the three most fragrant roses open for me at the moment:
But Lady Emma and Chandos Beauty look set to open so the above should soon have stiff competition.

Some pinks from me today. These three are looking similar actually but fragrance is very different.
