Good morning, It’s another bright, cool, sunny day today. Frost in the night again, but now melted away. I must make a better effort to go out today for a walk. I just want to hibernate when it’s cold, but it’s really not good to do so for too long is it?
Sounds as if your wardrobe work and improvements are coming along well, @Allotment Boy". To all feeling under the weather, I hope today is better for you.
Morning all. I hear a bit of wheezing when I walk up hills these days (I say hills, I mean the gentle rise into town or a bit less gentle on the walk to the community centre). The lack of gardening exercise making itself felt I fear.
You'll love it when all the work is finally done @Allotment Boy. Wish we had the wherewithal to get our back bedroom sorted. The window needs replacing but there is a bed under it with a v.heavy mattress on it that was the devil to get up the stairs and I can't see how that can be shifted.
I too love hares! We do see them in our neck of the woods, don't we @Dovefromabove and @Busy-Lizzie? And they feature heavily in people's artworks. But they still get shot - a local farmer's wife (and wildlife photographer par excellence) was disconcerted to learn that 200 had been shot for sport recently. And our local hunt are harriers - which means they used to hunt hares - although these days its a trail of course. But who knows what happens when they get out into the fields? There are always a few protestors when they meet in the centre of town for the traditional Boxing Day hunt. I steer clear, but it does mean our local cafes and pubs get a fair bit of trade.
More meetings today - so much to get organised for the year ahead! But mainly additional meetings to plan the funding bids for some projects we hope will help with some of this year's projects.
Afternoon all, still feel rough but made it to our friend's funeral this afternoon. Wore a mask and sat well away from the others near the door, so I could have a quick exit if I started coughing/choking/wheezing. Didn't go to the wake afterwards though. I was amazed to learn that my friend was 88, I knew she was older than me but thought she was only in her early 80's. She had always been a bit cagy about her age. Apparently she was also an accomplished pianist which I also didn't know and a former nurse which I did. A lovely, warm, caring, joyful woman full of life. Her poor partner is absolutely devastated as they were devoted to each other for 34 years.
Fortunately we had lovely sunshine all day. The Cremoratorium in Bath sits on top of a hill and has a huge glass window with a wonderful view over to the Mendips. On a clear day, you can see for probably 30 miles or more. It helps.
@didyw, would there be room to prop the mattress up against the wall whilst the window was done? We've done that in the past when redecorating.
What fun to see a hare close up @Pat E. We saw one last year on the edge of a narrow country road we were driving along. A beautiful sight to treasure.
Good afternoon, just back from taking the curtains to the specialist dry cleaners, thought we had better get them done while they arr down. Decorator is here but plumber is a no show, had an emerging call out apparently. OH is not happy as we got all the linen out of the airing cupboard last night , so we have all that plus all our stuff out of the wardrobes . Hey ho! I wrote this some time ago but did not send for some odd reason. Decorating done no news of plumber though.
@Allotment Boy, I'd be very interested in knowing how much the cost of cleaning your curtains is, if you feel like sharing that info of course. I've just handwashed 4 very big ones I was given as the reputable laundry I would have used has now moved out of Bath. They were complicated curtains so I suspected might have cost a bomb to get dry cleaned!
I sympathise with your trying to find temporary homes for everything, having had to do the same recently. It's worth it in the end!
They haven't given me the price yet but they are a specialist cleaners. The curtains have blackout linings , there's no way we would have washed them . I am happy to say the price when I have it. You are right it will be worth it in the end, as you say it's the disruption its been a while since we did anything.
Evening. It’s what I call “midweek Friday” as a day off tomorrow. Work is busy at the moment so glad to have breather midweek. I’m finding the early starts in the cold and dark hard going this year, but the evening light is starting to return and that is cheering me up. I’m reminding myself that in a couple of months time, I’ll be pottering in the garden after work and tending to my seedlings. Spring is so much much sweeter for coming after the cold, dark months - it’s as if it is designed that way!
Morning everyone. We are expecting someone from the Electricity Company to arrive today to update our metre. The letter said they’d arrive some time between 7.30 am and 5pm. 😳. Hubby filled his thermos with coffee in preparation, however, it’s now 10.30 and still no sign of them. 🤬. He was planning to go to town today, but wants to wait until they have arrived in case they need to get into the garage. (I’m too breathless to walk down there and back up again). This long Covid is a real nuisance.
lizzie27, we welcome all wildlife here (except snakes) so they are a bit tame. 😁
I hope you have been freed from your bondage and you OH can get into town!! Isn't it cruel how these tradesmen give us such a long time to wait!!
Cold but the wind has dropped.
Lunch today in a newly opened restaurant with a friend so that should be interesting. No gardening today but there are lots of good intentions for tomorrow!!! - but my ballet floor exercise class tonight, so the muscles could be stiff tomorrow!!
Have a pleasant day everyone.
A la Sainte Jacqueline, froid et bruine. Cold but no rain here.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ Hope the workmen have been and you can relax now @Pat E 😊 When I woke about half an hour ago there was a bright moon shining down on us … now a thick fog has come down suddenly and I can’t see the moon at all. It’s about -2C … I left some sheets and towels out on the line as they weren’t dry enough to bring in and I’d got woollies on the racks indoors. I expect they’re frozen stiff by now … however the forecast is for sun later so hopefully they’ll be dry enough to bring in this afternoon 🤞
