Wow, I bet that was an amazing sight @Hostafan1. How lovely to see it close up.

    Good morning everyone,

I’m so pleased you were able to visit your son/brother @Dovefromabove and @WonkyWomble. The staff sound wonderful, and that must be so reassuring for you.
I’m sure you being there, and the music playing will aid his recovery. 💐

Today is rather grey and cloudy but not as windy as yesterday. I’ve got some washing on the go, so if it stays dry, it might go outside 🤞.

Yes, @Lizzie27, there are definitely signs of spring. I’ve got crocuses in bloom too, along with some daffs, miniature Iris, snowdrops and pansies. A lovely splash of colour. The magnolia is also showing signs of life. Something to look forward too.

    Hi all

Still very windy here. Lost a couple of pots in the storm yesterday, but compared to the damage in parts of Sheffield, pretty minor.

    Morning all.

I’m loving all these signs of Spring! Disappointing weather today so hoping for better tomorrow so I can get outside.

  • Sadly Wonky and her dad won’t be able to visit just yet. What I’d not understood or no one had explained at the hospital is that when they said Two Visitors it has to be the same two every time while he’s in Intensive Care.
If we’d known that of course my partner would never have come in with me yesterday … but he came in to support me on my first time of seeing him. We’re mortified that this means his dad won’t be able to visit at the moment. After the initial shock he has been very understanding. I’ve suggested that he records audio messages for me to play to him when I visit. I’m hoping to go 2/3 times a week to fit between the days he has to go into theatre to have his dressings changed.
When he’s out of ITU I’ll probably be exhausted (and so will my little Alfa Mito) so the rest of the family and friends can take over for some of it then. 😊
But whoops! What a mistaka to maka!!! How to piss off your ex in one easy lesson 🫢🫣🥴

    Incredibly easy to do, @Dovefromabove.
It has been a real issue since COVID, with many people being caught out.
I think it might be beneficial for your son, to only hear 2 voices for a while, the ICU environment is very confusing for patients.
Hopefully your ex will understand, if not, tough.

That’s frustrating for your family Dove. It might be worth speaking to the nurse in charge next week to see if you can ‘swap’ one of the visitors with the argument that it would benefit your son (and that it wasn’t made clear). They might be able to offer video calls (we did in COVID) but as punkdoc says it might be a good plan to limit voices and visitors until he is awake and with it. Rules and advice can change depending on what’s happening on the unit as a whole, risk factors and patient condition, so take things a day at a time.

  • Thanks @punkdoc  🤗
The ward was very busy when we went … I can’t blame them … just one of those things. When they did explain they said that they’d found the two person rule had not only helped to prevent a lot of COVID infection, but that other infections were down too … so important in a burns unit.

  • Yes @AuntyRach … they’ve suggested video calls when he’s conscious and his dad is looking forward to that. 👍

The next few weeks are going to be quite a strain on you @Dovefromabove and @WonkyWomble and all the family.  But it sounds as if things are going very much in the right direction and it could have been so much worse.  My advice is always, when people are thrust into caring situations, to ensure that you take care of yourselves too and make sure you are well rested.  He is going to need so much support and he needs his family to be mentally and physically strong enough to give it.

I took my own advice when my OH was in the Priory for 5 weeks.  I had great fun getting in a painter and decorator and curtain maker and completely redecorated our bedroom - while visiting him every day.  When he was allowed home for a night during the last couple of weeks he was there I got him painting a little chest of drawers, just so he could feel involved.  It was still quite a long time before he was mentally properly stable - and we were able to move to sunny Suffolk!  I still miss our old bedroom though - it really did look good!
