    Morning all,

As far as I can remember, a curry was a dish that my dad never really made for us @Ladybird4. He did a mean chinese though - used to have 2nds and 3rds of huge platefuls when I was a growing lad ;) Made his own pork pies as well - massive ones (approx. 8 inches in diameter) two at a time. One for our fridge and one to take to work for all his colleagues. Made his own ice cream and pate (not necessarily for consumption at the same time :o) as well. Didn't realise what a good cook he was growing up but, looking back, it was like living in a Michelin restaurant at times!

Replacing a roast with a curry sounds good to me! Especially if it was made by an expert who learnt in India.

Most of my curries are vegetarian now and sweet potato has become a favourite ingredient. A decent sized bag was costing pennies when I started using them. Slightly more expensive now but such a versatile vegetable - love a peppery sweet potato mash with some quality sausages and homegrown peas. Mmm :D

Think I need to get some breakfast now :D:D:D

OMG @Biglad - talk about 'made to make your mouth water'. I am dribbling at the mouth reading your post! When Dad was stationed in Kuala Lumpur in the early 60's and I was a mere child in school I used to dream about pork pies and pickled onions and when we hit the UK in 1963 it was not too long before I was able to fulfil my dream. To this day it remains a favourite.

Hello all. Busy day at work yesterday but I have a long weekend using the lieu hours for my Saturdays so not back to work until Wednesday now. I was planning to garden but we will see what the weather does.
Youngest daughters birthday today so seeing her and Thomas in a bit..
Hope you all have a lovely Saturday despite the cold, I keep telling myself it’s Better to start cold and get warmer this month but I am longing for some sunshine. I did but a huge bunch of daffodils reduced from Tesco so I have something to remind me that better times are coming.

What an exciting childhood with your dad being stationed in such exotic places @Ladybird4

The pork pies were legendary - a photographer once insisted on his payment being one!

    Morning all.

I hope you enjoy your few days off @debs64.
We always had a roast on Sunday when I was a child. Usually lamb or beef which was cheap then, rarely chicken which was expensive. Then it was often curry with the leftovers on Monday. My Mum was quite good at curries as she learnt to make them when she was in Sri Lanka for part of the time in the war, after Bletchley Park. I often put butternut squash in curry as I grow it in the garden.

    It's drizzling outside.

Good morning everyone. Big Lad and LB your posts have made me very hungry. I think a curry could be for dinner tonight. Debs enjoy your time off work . I hope the weather is mild enough for you to garden at some point during your break .
Have a pleasant day folks .

Afties all. Late on parade today. Have been sorting out more stuff from the loft and they are all ready bagged now to be taken to the charity shop on Monday. Have also sorted out all the stuff we are taking to mums, on our next visit, and got it in one place. Good tidy up and clean around and feeling better now.
Ive noticed that a couple of plants in the greenhouse are starting to look  a bit sad, I think it's maybe too cold for them.  They will just have to take their chances though as can't get them planted out yet,,particularly with the snowy /icy forecast. Also, a little cactus cutting I took has died off so that's been cleared away too.
Busy, how is your OH faring now? Are things improving and is he healing well?
  • Biglad thoroughly enjoyed your foodie post, sounds delicious.  LB gosh you’ve done some travelling with Dad lovely memories.  Hazel how kind of the farmer to put you up and keep you out of the cold.  Busy doing Lilys tv, mostly hung last wash imminent.  Enjoy the rest of your day all.  Debs enjoy time with your daughter and Thomas.  Busy hope it’s been an easier day for oh.

Afties all. Oh well done to you Hazel. You have been working hard so I hope that you don't get a flare up. Have a rest tomorrow. You can always cover up your plants in the GH with old newspapers if we get the forecasted freezing weather next week. As long as the roots don't freeze in the pots you might be in with a shout of saving them.
Yes indeed Biglad and Rosie. I did travel around a lot with Dad. Until I had my own first house I had never lived anywhere longer than 3 years. In fact Kuala Lumpur was that length and I loved every minute because I was just old enough to appreciate the experience.

Hazel and Rosie, OH is gradually getting more mobile although he is still in some pain. A friend called round this afternoon bearing a cottage pie, kind of her. She said he looks less gaunt than he did before the operation.

Sounds as thoigh you've had a busy day, Hazel.
