When I was at physio there was an elderly lady with a knee replacement. When told to do squats she bent from the waist instead. The physio was having great difficulty explaining to her that squats required bending at the knee, not the waist. When the lady said she couldn't squat because the knee was tight, I could almost see the steam coming out of the physio's ears. The physio did remain calm and explained that the knee was tight because the lady wasn't doing the exercises designed to keep it free.
I can well understand @KT53 . My physio at home has similar problems with people going thru the motions but not making much effort or not doing their exercises corectly. I've just had a reminder about taking little steps and bending my knee, not treating my leg like a lump of wood. Not easy but it does work and does get easier.
Home today then 3 weeks with the leg bending machine and other exercises before the serious stuff starts with the bike and elastics and squats.

Thanks @floralies. I'm home now and on the sofa with my leg up and covered in ice blocks to reduce the swelling and the windows open for air and country sounds - mostly sparrows at ths time of day but better than traffic and sirens and beepers.
And yes, I do know what's to come and how to get fit again as fast as possible. Hard work but at least it's entertaining at the physio's litle gym with all the regulars and their banter. And no 40+ heatwave so far.

@Obelixx, it was the same when i went to the physio's gym for four weeks after my hip op, all the local banter, most of them doing shoulder exercises and having massages while i was on the bike and leg weights.
@floralies I did 9 months in the end and aim to do at least 6 this time and then maybe just join a gym. It's a bit of a commitment of time but great fun and gets results and I do want to stay fit as long as possible.
@Obelixx it's very easy to forget how important it is to keep up with physio exercises even after you start walking normally again. It was brought home to me recently when my hip was very tight when I got up in the morning, and if I was sat for any length of time. It loosened up very quickly when I did start walking again but then I remembered that the physio had said to do 10 -20 minutes a day on my exercise bike. I'd stopped doing it when I started walking a lot. Over the last couple of evenings I've done about 10 minutes at a time on the bike, and lo and behold the hip is much easier when I start moving.

I take it your hip is a success?
@Buttercupdays - well observed.
