  • Good afternoon,  we slept late, much brighter and dryer here too really wanted to get out but feeling carp with this virus as others have said it's a nasty one.  Might get out and take off the dead rose heads that the ice and snow finished off.  I  cleaned and oiled all my pruning tools yesterday so I have no excuse.

    Indeed @Dovefromabove.

Afternoon everybody. I also had a lie in this morning so OH fetched the paper. He can just about manage the return trip which is good news and it also means that I get more gardening time! I have pruned two more roses and then helped OH prune one of the apple trees. The rest will have to wait, there's plenty of time. This afternoon I had to take the bird feeders down and empty the bird feed out as they were not feeding. Discovered I didn't clean them as well as I should have last time, I couldn't smell them but obviously the birds could. It's a horrible mucky job even though they dismantle into halves. They are now drying out under the boiler.

It was great to have sunshine and blue skies most of the day even if it was not as warm as yesterday. Glad you also enjoyed the better weather @Punkdoc, it does make a great deal of difference. I think rain is forecast tomorrow so I'll take down our tree and decorations then, couldn't waste good gardening weather today. I might even take a trip to a GC, I need a new pruning saw for the roses.

Your neighbours 'do' sounded good @didyw, how nice to make a new friend.

Hello all. It's been a busy day.

Thank you @AnnaB, @Lizzie27 and @didyw. How lovely to make a new friend, Didy.

The car is mostly packed - but where is OH's suitcase? I hope he's packed it. Decorations are back in their boxes. Ironing is done, clean bedding on bed. I must make some sandwiches for lunch tomorrow en route.

I roasted the NYE lobster shells after baking jacket  potatoes for our supper, and now they’ve been bashed up and are in the slowcooker with celery, fennel fronds and seeds, onion, carrot, bayleaves, garlic etc and hot water from the kettle. We’ll turn it off before we go to bed. Tomorrow I’ll add some tomato puree then reduce and freeze it. I can sense a paella in the not too distant future … 🤤

Morning all.  Sunny and a bit too warm so far, but predictions are for thunderstorms this afternoon. I just shrug my shoulders and let the weather do it’s own thing. 🙄
    Best wishes to all.

Rain has arrived. 👏👏. We’ve had the air con set to 22c because it was really hot and stuffy earlier. Much more comfortable now.

  • Morning All,

We've had lovely weather here the last few days, it was 21 degrees all over New Year and sunny in Bordeaux. Still nice here too.

Charlie back to school today, he's very pleased about it, I just have that awful hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach. It's a short week though. If only I wasn't in limbo over this house too, perhaps I would be in a better place mentally and have something positive to concentrate on.

Glad to see @hostafan pop in, Happy New Year, it surely can't be worse than last year for you, but I absolutely understand the terrible sadness haunting you. Take care of yourself.

Hope @Busy-Lizzie has arrived in the UK safe and sound. Fingers crossed a new date for the operation will come up soon.

Good day to all, hope everyone is well, or getting there.
