Afties all. Had a bit of a lie in today after all the early mornings recently and went to skip later on. A quick visit to *sco to get OH some cough medicine as his voice is very thick and croaky his morning. I blame yesterday afternoon being spent head bent over the acrylic painting he's doing for 23, must be having some reaction to the stuff. His voice has deepened too😲 We went into the chemist in town when it started to rain so quick dash round centre and then home. It's really mild today , what a nice change. Biglad, You'll have to wait in line if you need my expertise as we are determined to do our hallway stairs and landing this year, frames and walls, then, I think, I am off to Croatia to help Ante🤭 So I'll be available after that, if that's any good?😉 Well done on getting what you've done this morning though. I can't be bothered sanding things down, just slap on a fresh coat of paint and that'll do😂 Our white woodwork started to lose its whiteness after the EU banned a certain chemical from the paint and it really needs doing every two years now. Huh, who can do that at our age? Not I!! Topbird, brrr you're a good neighbour repotting all your friends roses in inclement weather, hope you do some nice warm jobs this afternoon.
Bussy, that is one reason, and second is that English is first foreign language in Croatia and it's not optional. All pupils must learn English at least 11 years ( 8 years elementary school +3 years craft school or +4 years high school). Textbooks are all Oxford edition, and my collogue use New Headway.
We came from the walk, frozen. It's still sunny, but very cold with high wind. I wanted to sow kohlrabi seeds, but I'll leave it till tomorrow. It'0s time to start think about dinner, but first short rest.
It started out dry, but then turned wet later. At least it’s not as cold. We ended up taking a trip to York as my OH had some banking to do and after taking a trip into our local town, found the branch there closed today. (He was not amused). As he needed some info quite quickly, I looked on line to see if any other branches fairly nearby were open. Although York is not on our door step, it’s not too far away, the bank branch there was open, so we had a run out and a spot of lunch too. It made a nice change, and we managed to dodge the showers. A bonus is I don’t have any cooking to do tonight. 😁
Yes, it’s odd how white goods and paint lose their whiteness over time. We have some white cabinets in the bathroom which have taken on quite a yellowish hue. They’ll have to do for the time being, though.
I hope your OH’s voice gets better quickly, @Songbird-2.
That's a shame @Songbird-2 - I'll have to crack on myself She who must be obeyed can't wait any longer.
I've called it a day on the basis that I can't really distinguish between, white, yellow and shadow now that I've lost the natural light. Also need to nip out for some bits before eldest arrives home from work needing some tea.
I did manage a quick foray into the garden on my lunch break. I realised that I'm a few months late pruning the loganberries Got that sorted and topped up the garden waste bin some more. I reckon they'll collect it tomorrow afternoon so I've still got time to get it completely full of soggy debris.
Biglad - you have been a busy bee today. I had to put on my lights ridiculously early because it was so dark. I had been over the road to see Jack - took him and his daughter some chocolate fudge brownies I had made. He is doing really well and told me he has a person from Spooksavers coming out on Monday to do a sight test. His prescription has changed since he had his second cataract operation. He is delighted with the result.
Well done T'Bird on your re-potting job. Your weather sounds like mine today. I had only just got back from Jack's though and the skies opened - at least you just had drizzle. I am getting fed up with the rain now.
Hazel, I hope that your OH's cough has subsided now. As someone who has a recurrent cough I can totally sympathise.
Red maple, two of my brothers were born in York at a place called the Purey Cust. T'Bird knew of it. Lovely city.
I made the bad mistake of thinking I am still as strong as I was 20 years ago. I decided I wanted to bring a TV bench from my bedroom, downstairs. It was one of those flat pack jobbies from the famous Swedish store. I got it on its side - easy peasy! Slid it to the top of the stairs - easy peasy. Mental debate about whether to go in front or lower it from behind. Started off in front and scared the living daylights out of myself and quickly got back to the top of the stairs, tugged it back up and abandoned the idea altogether. One on the list for handy brother or my next door neighbour if I can pin him down - which I almost was!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB hope you have a better evening and soon sleep well. Hope Lilys enjoying her cosy places. Hazel we can so easily damage our teeth mine was a chocolate nut bar quite some time ago. Ante hope the weather soon improves for you and yours. Hope you have a good rest. Topbird the water based satinwood is a good idea. Biglad I’ve never tried loganberries. Enjoy your evening all.
Evening all, Had a busy couple of days looking after the boys and then today I went to fat club and was amazed I had lost 1.5lbs Have no idea how considering all the 'naughty but nice' things I have been eating. Had my hair done this afternoon and then a chap came to give us a quote to have the ceiling in conservatory insulated. We have decided to go ahead with it as this year we haven't been able to use the room for the first time. All my conservatory plants have died from the cold and they were lovely and big. I've got one panel at the base of my shower that has turned yellow, was wondering about painting it (it's UPVC) but wasn't sure what to use. As far as the garden is concerned I have loads of soggy leaves and dead foliage about. I keep promising myself that I will sort it all out but I'm just too cold to brave it. My arthritis has played up more this winter and I'm sure it's due to the weather. Ante, if you fancy popping over and giving my bathroom a coat or two of paint, you would be very welcome, it's the only room left to do now. LB, you made me laugh over the antics of you and tv bench. I was the same when I tried to move the furniture in my bedroom last year when we had a new carpet fitted. I was convinced I would manage but couldn't move the wardrobes an inch. Had to get the son in law round to give me a hand. Enjoy your evening folks.
LB, you've awoken a memory or two for me too with your tv stand antics. It's quite scary though when you have the strong mind and attitude to tackle it and then find the body let's you down and you end up with the heebie jeebies. ( Ante= extreme nervousness caused by fear, worry, strain). Not very nice. OH's voice is a bit better tonight but he's at the painting again so we'll wait and see what it's like in the morning now. He has been sucking throat sweets and he's stocked up with medicines too, just in case. He's been very tired this afternoon. We think he's coming down with something.....no doubt he will want to share it too.
LB, be careful and it's better to leave to others to handle with it. Those item can be difficult to move, despite they are light.
Oh dear Yvie, you mistook me for Hazel. She loves to paint, and I would rather swim with sharks then paint. 😁 Just kidding, but I really hate work with paint, and always leave it to others. Sorry to hear that you lost all your lovely plants.
Hazel, so nice to hear that OH's voice is bit better.
I'm waiting for Poirot. I was outside to lock my garage, and wind is so strong.

Heart breaking @Yviestevie to lose all your lovely plants.
Just waiting for dinner to finish cooking.
