I went to bed to try and get a few more hours kip but mostly just listened to the wind howling and the driving rain. Had a couple of bright intervals, but still mostly Marti since daylight.
We've got some potential white stuff forecast as well @Ante1
The drought of last year seems a distant memory now!
I'm going to have to go back into my local store to try and get a replacement Advantage card. They keep insisting that I ring the Advantage Card 'centre' but that it is an automated system with a recorded message saying that replacement cards are issued in store. I'm bored of being in this loop now, so some poor, unsuspecting soul may get subjected to grumpy, insistent Biglad later today
For a national chain, I've often found that none of their services are 'joined up' in any way, shape or form.
well, it was a very windy night last night. Anything that could rattle did rattle. A tiny bit less windy now, but still quite blustery, with rainy showers. Our gardener is meant to coming today to trim back the magnolia, but I’ve texted him to ask if he’d rather rearrange to a calmer day, don’t want him falling off his ladder or getting hit with a branch. That’s the one thing we can’t manage to do ourselves as it puts on quite a growth spurt in the summer months, and also, he knows how to trim it back properly. No plans for today other than indoor pottering jobs.
We’ve been forecast light snow showers next week, too, @Ante1 plus keen frosts again. It’s fairly mild today out of the wind. So, that’s week 1 at school nearly over for you - don’t the weeks seem to fly by?
Afties all. We didn't sleep well either last night, wind kept OH awake and Inwas very restless. Up and at it early this morning, completing more in-depth indoor jobs🤫 Also managed to blow a fuse when the wax melts blew its bulb😬 Nigh on everything downstairs stopped working, oops. During a quick wander around the garden, I spied four little green tips of the snowdrops we put in last year, popping up so was pleased they've made it okay. Have contacted the double glazing company and they are sending someone out next week to check everything over and also to readjust the front door. Eek Biglad , Ante and Red Maple! Snow? Noooooooooo....
We've had a Friday 13th sort of day. (Fortunately) OH was up & about early to get tyres changed. Unfortunately he stepped out to a flooded driveway. The stopcock / isolation valve to the front outside tap had blown off and water at mains pressure was p**sing all over the drive. Goodness only knows how long it had been doing that.
Thought we knew where the outdoor stopcock was but we couldn't seem to turn it off. OH thought he had but water was still flowing... Seems we very kindly turned off our neighbour's supply for a couple of hours by mistake. Of course, they're the ones we seem to have fallen out with (but we have no idea why!!). Went round to apologise but they didn't come to the door.
Eventually located our valve, turned off the water & emergency plumber came to repair the tap. We now have water back on in the house.
Then I decided to stamp down some cardboard to flatten it to take to the recycling. Slipped on it and went down like a sack of spuds. Have done a mischief to my finger which I'm hoping is only bruised and not broken.
I may go to bed at about 5pm and hope nothing else happens!

We have been to Norwich Hospital for OH's lung function tests. I'm not sure why as last year they were excellent. They said they were a follow up.
We took the Park and Ride as the hospital car park is usually full. OH parked the car in the disabled parking where we caught the bus. When we came back the bus stopped at 2 places in the car park. Everyone had got out and the driver told us to. We said that we wanted to go to the stop where we got on as OH's car was in the disabled parking there. The driver said that was only a stop for getting on not for getting off and he would get into trouble if he took us there so we had to get off. It was almost further than OH could walk and he was in pain. The driver should have told us as the other stop was nearer. Why have a disabled parking there if they wouldn't take you back to it? I was furious.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Topbird, think you should go to bed early tonight after the day you and OH have had. I hope you haven't seriously injured your finger but will probably wake up tomorrow with some aches and pains, and maybe bruises too, ouch! Don't do anything tonight..
Good afternoon all. OMG what a lot of unfortunate happenings to read about.
Red maple, I hope that your gardener got his work done without mishap.
Hazel, I'm not understanding melting wax and fuse blowing? Hope you were able to replace the blown fuse. I hope you manage to get your draughty windows sorted out as well.
T'Bird, what a veritable chapter of disasters for you. I do have to say - in the nicest possible way - that your description of it all made me think 'Laurel and Hardy' - sorrryyyyyy! Seriously, I do hope that you haven't broken your finger and I echo Hazel's comments.
I had a quick trip to the GC as the moment I stepped out of my door the rain cascaded down and I did not want to be out too long in that. I managed to get some new terracotta plant pots for my cacti and four new cacti for my collection. More potting on to complete tomorrow.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Busy, I was disgusted to hear how you and your OH were treated at hospital. I have never heard the like of a bus picking people up in one place but not taking people back to where they got on. Presumably the bus had to go back to the pick up point to pick up more people - unless this was the last bus of the day? I do hope you are writing a strong letter to the Hospital administrators. Anything could have happened to your OH on that arduous journey. There are no words!

LB - there has been a L&H element to our day. The water gushing everywhere was certainly something straight out of their films!
Hazel - thank you. Hope you get your issues sorted too. Draughts around new windows don't sound right - no matter how windy it is. Hope it gets sorted soon.
BL - what a total nonsense those car parking arrangements are. You might have to consider a snotty email to NCC or whoever is responsible for the Norwich P&R. Hope your OH doesn't suffer too much tonight.
I think my finger is just bruised. I was quite impressed that the 'Fall Function' on my smart watch worked. It basically comes up with a message saying 'It looks like you've had a fall - are you ok?' and I think it will do a couple of follow ups. Ifyou don't respond within a few minutes it alerts the emergency services with your phone number & location to let them know you might need help. It's saved a couple of people who've come off bikes etc in remote areas and knocked themselves out.

It's finally Friday evening. It was hard week, but I think the next one will be easier. We just must get used to work after holidays. At least days are visibly longer, and it makes a difference. I finally managed to have haircut today. They didn't have rush in salon, and they took me in without appointment. Day was beautiful, and here is first lovely sunset of the year.
