Made it safely (and in good time) to MIL's. Within 30 mins of walking through the door the rain started & it's not stopped. It was still white over at home but all the frost has gone here
Had a perfect Sunday afternoon. Roast lamb lunch with some decent wine, followed by an exciting World Cup final (with a drop more wine), followed by homemade apple pie and cream and tea between full and extra time. BIL came round just after the match ended and we had a good catch up with him. Very enjoyable.
MIL seems much more like herself - think she just needed some company and something to get out of bed for. She seems to be enjoying her new (ie my old) iPad which OH set up for her yesterday. We also seem to have sorted out the heating but it was genuinely difficult sorting out the controls. She has a smart thermostat which is less than smart when it comes to setting it up. Think we've done it now but it took OH about 3 hrs - no wonder she couldn't do it!
Glad to hear your Norfolk neighbour is ok BL. I also assumed you were talking about a french neighbour until I read about the 23 hour wait for an ambulance - didn't think they had those problems in France as well. That is so long for someone to lie in pain etc. I do hope your OH's op in Jan won't be affected by the industrial actions. As you said Norfolk nurses are not on strike but I'm not sure about those at the WSH. Is that where he is having his op?
A friend is having her hip done in the new year and she has to do a week's isolation before. Is it the same for C?
LB - glad you made it to and from your rellies ok. Nice plan for the 30th.
Hazel - I'd have been spitting nails about the ironing board - hope it's not difficult to return
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Good morning Biglad and all arriving later. Raining here and it would be wouldn't it as I need to go to the Bank in town today. Curses and profane words for them closing the sub branch in the village! At least all the snow and ice appears to have gone.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
T'Bird, pleased to hear that you arrived safely and the fact that it is now safer for your MIL if she can get out and about. With all today's modern technology, wouldn't you think that smart radiators could be the equivalent of just 'plug and play'. I have a smart and simple home heating system - which I love - but I keep getting emails promoting more and more things I can 'add' to it providing I am willing to purchase the necessary items that cost megabucks. I think not! It will have been nice catching up with your BIL as well.

Ruby, that is an excellent way to use up the bits of wool left in your stash. Hope you will post a picture once you have completed it. I am still trying to get to terms with crochet.

Morning all. Up early as son dropping round and OH is then following him to garage and bringing him back here to wait..... Sons brakes need changing. I'm hardly awake and it's so dark outside. Must get cracking, son is always here ahead of time.
Good morning Hazel and Busy. I can just see a slight glimmer of daylight here Hazel. I intend leaving here about 09:15 so it should be much lighter by then.
Busy, all you can do is keep your fingers crossed now. The country appears to be in a mess all round.

Topbird, glad you made it safely to MIL and that she seems to be perking up now, bless her. My brother has set my mums heating to come on twice a day now but when she wants it on or off( she doesn't feel the cold) she just turns the little wheel round until she hears it click on or off! It's not a combo boiler and one that still has the wheel as it's controls. Much simpler to control then these digital panels.
Bisy, I'm another one keeping their fingers crossed for your OH.🤞

Woke up in CA just in time for the cricket
Limbering up wouldn't look like that here, @Ladybird4
Must get cracking, son is always here ahead of time.
I'm glad your MIL is OK @Topbird. Well done to OH sorting out the heating.
We are worried about OH's op too as more NHS workers are going on strike.
