In awe of all the decorating you are doing @busy-lizzie, and good luck with those polystyrene tiles @floralies. I love my wellies - just bog standard black ones that I wear with thick walking socks. Hope you find something suitable for you @Ergates.
Yesterday was absolutely foul. Fortunately got a lift there and back to the meeting in town in the afternoon, but had to walk to the evening one - not too far and not too wet by then. The novelty of being plucky and stalwart in the no heating situation is wearing thin. Looking forward to the new boiler and increased efficiency, as @Dovefromabove mentioned.
OH was feeling very sorry for himself yesterday after quite a bit of treatment and lots of injections. Still feeling sorry for himself today as the temporary crown fell out during the night - lucky he didn't swallow it. Of course he cannot now get a dentist appointment as our practice is shared with a neighbouring town and the dentist is there. And we have no car until the new battery arrives. Oh woe is us! Not really - we are OK really. We have the convector heater.
Tomorrow we are meeting friends for coffee in the morning. I say friends, they are a couple we know who have befriended us and like to meet up with us when they come into Bungay once a week. They are sweet and she is recovering well from a stroke she had last year but sometimes it feels more like an obligation. But they have interesting things to talk about - which makes a change from the local gossip.
Good afternoon, after a horrible wet day yesterday, we had blue skies and 🌞 this morning. I know I say it often but it makes such a difference. Clouding over and cooling down now but at least I got to the plots and back in the dry. Did quite a lot of strimming on my main plot, as the rain and mild weather has made the weeds grow like mad, as well as the grass paths. All bashed down now.
Afternoon all, thankfully the rain and wind disappeared this morning so I did my usual walk, quite slippery with all the fallen leaves through the orchard though. Felt like a treat so bought doughnuts (still warm!) from our local bakery to have with coffee later.
As it was still so wet underfoot, we've just done more leaf clearing today but there's still a lot hanging onto the birch trees. Really pleased to see the first snowdrops just poking through under the wisteria.
That's really odd weather @Pat E, we went to Oz in a November, think it was about 1998 or thereabouts and had lovely weather, although the locals said it wasn't as warm as it should be.
@Floralies, depending on how long your tiles have been on the ceiling, you may find that they just peel off using a palette knife. They tend to get brittle with age.
@Busy-Lizzie, don't envy you trying to sand that lot, you're going to have to wear a mask as well. Have you got a hand sander? I found my 'mouse' very handy for sanding down. What about using a liquid sander or strong sugar soap? Personally I wouldn't be thinking of painting indoors over the winter, much prefer to do it in dryer, warmer weather!
@Punkdoc, that tooth extraction is taking a long time to heal, poor you.
@tui34, no planting here today - especially not broad beans!
Despite the ghastly weather to start with this morning, we managed an hour and a half walk in bright sunshine! And in my wellies! I put extra thick socks on over my regular socks and tucked my trousers into them. I was very comfortable, although my feet felt a little cold to start with. OH was wearing the male version of my goretex walking shoes, he was very impressed that his feet stayed completely dry, although his trouser legs got very muddy. ( Clean on this morning, he informs me, typical!) Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like I won’t have to splash out on new footwear just yet. I may treat myself to some extra cushioned boot socks though.
I haven't started decorating the stairs and landing yet. We went to Lidl, I changed the sheets and turned the mattress to its winter side, got in the fire wood, cleaned my walking boots and walked around the wet paddock to make sure they are still waterproof, watched A Place in the Sun as it was about Charente and dug some leeks then it was too late to do decorating.
I didn't know there was a Lidl here, looked on Google. It's only 4 mins drive away. I was quite impressed, it all looked clean and new. The meat, fish and veg looked good quality and was noticeably cheaper than Leclerc and Morrisons. I bought Sea Bass, lemon sole, steak and profiteroles. The profiteroles had more chocolate sauce than those from Leclerc. They also had Maltesers, first time I've seen them in this area. Bought Stollen and chocolate marzipan as well. 😋
Tomorrow I'm going for a walk with the local English walking club, then lunch in a restaurant. It will probably rain but it won't be cancelled. That's why I cleaned and tested my boots. I really liked my wellies for walking but they've sprung a leak and my new ones aren't so comfy.
@Lizzie27, I've bought some renovation paint which says you can paint it over anything, even gloss. I may try OH's sander though. It has a bag that collects the dust.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning from Luxembourg. Rain predicted for the entire day, nay, the entire week, temperatures a little higher than normal but boy is it grey and damp out there. Started the Christmas shopping yesterday and will continue today, fortunately we have a very good public transport system. I haven't got much to buy so it should be almost done with today's trip to the shops.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ we had a lovely if brief stay with MIL. OH did a few diy jobs for her and it was good to catch up with her older brother Uncle K who had come to stay for a few days. They get on well and as he’s a bit frail it gives his daughter a break.
It’s a dry and fairly bright morning back here in Norfolk, but apparently it’s going to be wet later on. Today’s ‘must do’ us to make room for a supermarket delivery later on … mainly dry goods, tins etc to stock up for the next couple of months … so surplus goes on shelves in the garage, but it needs organising.

yet more rain this morning, but it does seem to be easing off a bit so perhaps it might brighten up for the afternoon. I heard it pummelling on the window early this morning and was very glad that I didn’t have to get up and be out in it to go to work. There has to be a few positives to retirement! (Actually, there are lots if truth be told ).
No special plans for the day, just general pottering and tidying, I think. Went out yesterday and got some Xmas and birthday cards ready to catch the post for abroad so that’s a job off my list (a short list, admittedly as we’ve cut right back on present buying this year, just sending a nice card, which I think is to almost everyone’s relief - it was becoming more and more difficult thinking of something to buy that would be used, and we’ve said to the family to please not buy us anything either. Everyone has far too much extra expense anyway this year what with heating bills and food bills escalating). It’s different if there are young children, but there are none in our family now to buy for.
Nothing quite like your own bed, is there @Dovefromabove? It’s nice to go away, but equally nice to return home again.
Pleased to read that your mouth is beginning to heal, @punkdoc. It’s taking a while, but hopefully it’ll be well settled before Christmas.

Still raining, seems like it has not stopped for 2 days now.
Plenty of books to read, so I shouldn't get bored.
