My parcel was delivered today. Same man who couldn't find my house yesterday. He rang, said they hadn't told him my number yesterday. When I opened the parcel, English groceries for my children who all live in France, several things were broken, Branston pickle, Hoisin sauce, pickled onions lids damaged. Luckily they had wrapped everything in separate plastic bags but there were some leakages and damage. I don't think tea bags would taste nice with pickle on them! I've sent an email with a photo. I think it was the delivery company's fault, box marked fragile had been thrown about.

We did some Christmas shopping this afternoon.

Lovely morning, so we had a long walk. Spent the early afternoon cleaning out half the gutters. Managed not to fall off the step ladder, but got a bit wet with the hose pipe. Came in, cooked and ate dinner, but then couldn't get out of my chair. Certainly twisted my back. Managed to hobble to the sofa, but pretty uncomfortable if I try to move. Hopefully it’ll settle down overnight. Couple of paracetamol at bedtime.

  • Hi everyone,  we are just back from town.  We went to a lunchtime concert at ROSL (Royal over-seas league) . A Hungarian/British  pianist Florian Mitra.  Afterwards we popped into the Royal Academy to use their restaurant for a a quick lunch.  Had a look in Burlington arcade  and old Bond St just to see how the other half live. Needless to say the wallet stayed firmly in the pocket. 😄
    Made a nice change.

    Evening.

I’m isolating myself upstairs as I have a sore throat and cough today. Negative LFTs. One bonus is that the World Cup won’t be making an appearance on my viewing schedule! The isolation plan may fall flat however as the cats are not interested in the distancing and hand washing rules. They do make for lovely hot water bottle alternatives however (although mine go for the legs not lap).

    Take care all.

Sorry to hear your feeling under the weather @AuntyRach!! I have a  spooning type cat which hasn't helped me through the menopause but she seems to find my heat sauce a welcome comfort on a winter's night! I hope they nurse you to good health asap 🤗
My comfort viewing is always Detectorists 👍😉..... Not football!

Cats are the masters at finding a warm spot aren’t they @WonkyWomble! An up side of not having the heating on much is the cats wanting to sit closer in the evenings, although I am currently in a cloud of Olbas oil, so they may not fancy that wafting over them.

Evening all. Well after a manic week, not helped by virtually continuous rain and wind, the sun finally shone today for the funeral. So many folk came that they had to have speakers outside the very small chapel.
A lightening strike from one of the storms that passed through a few days ago has struck our 'locality' and shorted out our routers, so am occasionally able to get internet via tethering through daughter's phone - so may be in and out a bit until new router thingy arrives via post!!
    Take care everyone.

  • Good morning all 😊 ☕️
@AnnaB  a friend in N. Wales told me of some pretty grim weather and I thought about you and your extended family. Glad the sun came out for the funeral.
Glad too that all is well with you @Pat E  😊

I’ll go to the farm shop today … yesterday I was occupied by ‘paperwork type stuff’ 🙄

Looks like a relatively dry day ahead … 🤞

Quiet day in the garden today - bringing my agapanthus in and tidying up my auriculas.  Might get some foxgloves and euphorbia in the ground too.

Its been a busy week - luckily my back is now back to full strength.  Lots of hoeing and potting at West Dean, and then a day at Bluewater yesterday.  I know, I know, not many forumites idea of a treat, but we had a great day out with sister and nieces, and have made a big dent in my Christmas present shopping list.  I’ve got a manic December coming up, so it was good to get in a festive mood 🎄🎄🎄

Oh, and one of my Bright Red Amaryllis buds, planted at the end of October, is about to open.  It must be feeling the festive vibes too 🤣
