Indeed @Lizzie27 … son was travelling on the south coast earlier today and said the road conditions were horrendous and some drivers were struggling to cope … he said there were several accidents. He contacted us to make sure we had arrived safely and was relieved to hear the weather was not too bad at all, comparatively speaking. 😊

We seem to have had the same weather as you @Lizzie27 today - heavy bursts of rain, some prolonged, plus a pretty strong wind. Some improvement this afternoon though.
Glad you arrived safely Dove, enjoy your few days with your MIL.
Love that little restaurant Busy, sounds as though the food was good too. Well worth another visit I would think.
Hope @Pat E is keeping warm, where had her Spring and Summer disappeared too?

Morning AnnaB. Yes you’re right. It’s supposed to be summer here and we’ve had minus temps for several days. Needless to say, we’ve had the wood fire going each night. Thankfully, the newly glassed-in veranda is nice and warm.
The winds have been incredible. My sister, (Ulladulla, down the east coast) reported a shed door ripped off. 😳

The winds are still here, but supposed to be easing. We’ll see.

    Morning all.

I may start decorating the landing and up the stairs today. It won't be easy as it is all pine panelling, very common in old French houses, and someone has painted it all in various shades of yuk beige gloss. I will have to sand it first. Ceiling needs doing too, but it's quite low in that part. The extension with 2 more bedrooms is more modern, part of the barn with the sitting room underneath. That bit doesn't need doing. This cottage was a one bedroom with a barn attached when P bought it in the 80s.

    Still raining.

Wet and horrid here this morning, but after a full day at home yesterday getting absolutely nothing useful done, we have headed up to the Donkey Sanctuary for breakfast. Hoping the rain will clear enough to get a bit of a walk. Have brought my wellie Boots to try, but not sure I’ll be able to walk too far in them. I should really look out for something knee high and waterproof, but with sufficient padding and fit in the foot to provide support. Any suggestions? My Goretex walking shoes are pretty good, but don’t protect my trousers from the ankles up. Not keen on waterproof trousers, too hot and sweaty for comfort.
How did you get on at the dentist yesterday, @punkdoc? You have been causing me some worry!

    Hi all

Thank you for asking, @Ergates. The dentist said it is healing, but it is not fully there yet. I am starting to feel more comfortable.
Unfortunately I do seem to heal slowly these days, probably a result of my other ailments.
Luckily the weather is so bad, I have no desire to be outside.

Morning all, no desire to be outside either, it's cold, wet and miserable.
We have plenty of decorating to do also @Busy-Lizzie, our new extension is quite straight forward to do but the older part is a nightmare. There are polystirene tiles on two of the bedroom ceilings which need to come off and also some wallpaper with upside down mandarin writing on it! Any ideas anyone for removing the tiles?

I cannot wear wellies due to having had an ankle replaced twice. The last time I wore wellies I couldn't get the one on my replacement foot off. Had to lay on the sofa with my leg along the back for a couple of hours, until the swelling had gone down. I now rely on walking boots for wet weather and "Extra squishy" Sketchers trainers for dry weather or crocs in the summer. That really is the name of the trainers.
For wet weather gear, I now wear thermal men's longjohns only, under fleece-lined waterproof fishing trousers which works really well for me. Not too hot or bundled up. I found the trousers at Aldi's or Lidl's, cannot remember which. About £14.00.
I am planning to explore a stall in a local market that caters to fishermen and outdoor protective clothing. Not glamorous but if it works I do not care, my comfort comes first.

    Good afternoon everyone!

Again @Pat E you're having the same weather as I am down here.  My friend in Melbourne said they had a high of 13°C today - crazy for November!!   It is blustery with a strong Tramontane coming off the Canigou which lowers the temperature some.  I can't say it is cold at 13°C this afternoon and sunny.   I haven't turned on the boiler yet, it's a bit frisky in the morning, but nothing a cup of tea can't handle.  The open fire goes on around 4pm as it takes a while for the bricks to give out some heat.

My Christmas pudding is bubbling away and I made some ginger nuts this morning too.  A friend is popping in later this afternoon.

So, the winter weather is here:  Pour Sainte Cécile, chaque fève en fait mille!!  Today is a good day to sow your broad beans.

    Keep warm and snug.
