    Hi all

First heavy frost of the year and a very driech day, have to admit I am still in bed.
Back to the dentist today, although things are a lot better, I feel they ought to be better than they are.

Looks like everyone slept in yesterday. We did too.
The plumber should be coming today to try and get our heating back on.  Having just one convector heater we really noticed just how much the temperature has dropped now.
But we had a good walk in the sunshine to the other end of town yesterday to put up the banner for the forthcoming street market and treated ourselves to a packet of biscuits on the way back.  Munched some of those whilst watching a few more episodes of The Crown in the afternoon - indulgent!
Hope the trip to your MIL's goes well @Dovefromabove.
Envy you your airing cupboard @Aunty Rach.  Ours used to have a boiler in it but that was removed when we put in a combi boiler (the one that now needs fixing).  But the pipes are in that cupboard so still a good place to store sheets and towels.  Not big enough for a rail to hang things though and that's what I wish we had.
SIL has ordered a new battery - arriving tomorrow or Wednesday - so will be mobile again soon.

@Dovefromabove, I have noticed I am healing much more slowly generally than I used to. I still have a wound on my leg fro a fall 2 months ago. I suppose my general decrepitude is catching up with me.

Afraid that comes with increasing age @punkdoc ((hugs)) ... I began to notice it about 10 years or so ago ... even slight cuts and grazes that used to disappear virtually overnight now can take quite a while  :/

Morning all, it's pouring with rain at long last, after the drought it's such a welcome sight, just wish it could be warmer!
It's one of those days where I have plenty to do in doors and end up fiddling around and not achieving much. OH is still tiling the new shower room, it's the first time he's done a large area with corners and cut outs so he's being very careful to get it right. Safe journeys to all who are out and about.

Plumber just been.  He's an excellent plumber and we are lucky to have him but he delivered bad news - we need a new boiler.  He was hoping it was one thing that is easily replaced, but when the heating didn't stay on but switched back to hot water only, he realised it was the other thing that cannot be replaced.  So a new boiler it is.  Hopefully it will be done by the end of the week but it it will be £ouch.

  • If it’s any consolation @didyw, the new boiler that we had installed last year is considerably more economical/efficient than the previous one. A big plus factor this year. 👍

    We have arrived 😊

We went out for lunch today, to an old stone restaurant in a pretty little village about 15 mins away. The owner who served us was funny and friendly and his wife was the cook. It was simple, good French food, 3 courses and coffee for 15€50 each. I think we'll be going back there again.

Then we went to buy some crackers in a shop rather like Wilko, the only place I've found around here that sells crackers, but they won't be in until December.

Evening all, I'm just waiting for the dinner to cook so have a few minutes to catch up on here. We overslept to 9. 30 am and we've had torrential rain nearly all day, gave in and drove down to pick up our daily paper - mercifully there was a car park space outside.

It must be catching @didyw, we're having a new boiler as well, a Worcester Bosch one with a 10 year guarantee on parts which is good news. Chap came this morning to have a look, he's already fitted boilers in 3 houses in the cul de sac behind us and the company is celebrating their 50th anniversary since his dad started it so I think we're in good hands.
He's fully booked until early Jan though which we don't mind as the old boiler is still functioning well, although it's nearly 16 years old.

Glad you've arrived safely Dove, and hope the weather wasn't too awful. I'm very relieved I wasn't on the M5 today and my trip tomorrow to my daughter's has been postponed at her request.

Love the look at that restaurant @Busy-L@didyw

Right, my pinger is pinging, better go investigate - I'm hungry!
