Good afternoon, dull but dry here and noticeably cooler, (probably nearer where it should be). Spent the morning in rhe garden for a change, leaf clearing and general work. Potted up 2 lots of the viola plugs we bought, I have put them on top of some of the bulb pots, will have to hoik them out again when the bulbs come through but it's better than looking at bare gravel for weeks
Good afternoon. The weather is similar to yours @Allotment Boy. This morning I have winter pruned the Buddleia as per BeechGrove suggestion. Sawn some winter salad, a bit late, we'll see.
I got very annoyed with P Nyssen yesterday as they messed up delivery for the second time in as many orders. I think they have an address machine that leaves out the civic number. This has happened last month but I managed to contact the courier just on time before the bulbs were going to be sent back to Holland. This time they went back and I had no notification from either Nyssen nor the courier. Well, they can keep them! so I asked for a refund. It is a shame, now I have to think of something else to plant in them Barbie pink containers. Umpf.
I think you probably need to buy a new battery, @didyw. We had a similar problem during lockdown, and discovered that the battery was permanently damaged by running flat, and would never hold a full charge again. (something to do with internal plates and electrolytes - didn’t actually understand it- you can buy a tester that tells you if the battery is beyond hope, or pop into Halfords or similar and they can test it for you )
A new battery would be able to hold a full charge easily without being driven for at least a few weeks at a time. ( eg airport car park ) If you don’t drive it regularly, you could pop the charger on overnight every couple of weeks so that it doesn’t run flat again.
I was just going to post the same thought @Ergates. It happened to OH's car when he didn't use it lot - one of the reasons we got rid of it and went down to one car between us. You really must take the car on a regular long run @didyw whether you want to or not if you want to keep it going. Brilliant fund raising, you must be very pleased.
Big surprise this morning, we had a frost! Wasn't expecting that so was glad I had put most of the decorative ceramics (bird baths mainly) safely in the shed and had already lagged the outside taps.
We had a very pleasant lunch out today with friends in our car club at a nice canalside pub about 20 miles away. They had put their prices up and done away with their smaller meals which we usually choose for lunch. Funnily enough their goujons sandwich with extras was far bigger but cheaper with our chosen dishes!
Our new duvet and pillows thankfully arrived just before we left and are already on the bed in anticipation of another cold night. Pondering whether or not I could wrap the old duvet around a compost bin for extra insulation but suspect it might get rather manky!
It's been a busy day today but at last the bedroom painting is finished. It took longer than I thought, pine panelling, beams, nooky bits. The landing is next.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good for you @Busy-Lizzie, what colour did you choose in the end?
In a previous house, I painted the 1970's pine panelled ceiling in a rather dark big utility room just with white emulsion which made a tremendous difference.
Ffffffflippin ‘eck … it’s ffffffreezing out there … really! There’s a sharp frost! Everything’s sparkling in the light of the street lamps. The App says 0C but I reckon it’s actually -1 or -2 directly outside … we’re in a real frost pocket as cold air rolls down the hill and gathers outside here … I imagine that’s the last of my salvia flowers for this year.
Night night all, sleep tight and keep snug. 🛌 😴

Evening all. My very sincere thanks for your sympathy. good wishes and understanding, it is very much appreciated. Things have quietened down somewhat with just a few regular daily visits from close friends, most of whom bring offerings of food with them which certainly helps the situation. Daughter has been spending much of her time over there trying to clear a way through the reams of paperwork and accounts and computer records - some cows due to go to the market next week need their passport paperwork, had to be searched, found then printed off. All new to her but she's doing her best bless her. Frost this morning here, had to wait for the sun to come round to warm up the old Landy before a late morning rush to the village store. Looks and feels like another frost tonight, very cold outside. We are singing the praise of the trusty Rayburn that keeps chugging away sending lovely warmth round the radiators, I can no longer put up with living in a cold house as I did in my youthful years. Keep warm everyone and enjoy your Sunday however you wish to spend it.
Hello everyone. We’ve got extremely high winds today. I’m sure we will find lots of branches blown down next time we drive out the back. 🙄. Luckily we’ve stayed in, so easy day.
Very misty here, and certainly colder than we have had lately. The sweet restaurant (in an old gaol) that Charlie and I go to every Saturday has had to close because it is too cold, they are having work done on insulating the very high roof, but actually, I think it might need more than that, the draughts come up from the dungeons as well....we'll see. Anyhow, we had to find a new venue for our lunch date, ended up in Hautefort, @Busy-Lizzie probably knows it, a nice restaurant called Le Troubadour. All very nice, not a great deal of choice, but quality. It was full too, so obviously very popular. We won't be going every week though, it was more than double the price of our little jailhouse.
Cake making this morning, our cake of the day yesterday, a Tiramisu Cake, completely sold out, think I might do another one today as it was so popular.
So, on that note, catch up later, good day to all, stay warm everyone.
