Result! OH tried to call the secretary, couldn't reach her, then the phone rang and it was the woman from the hospital. She has spoken to the surgeon who has told her that the operation is to be done in January so she is arranging it. She said she hadn't realised it was so urgent. Still 3 months to wait but hopefully it will happen.

That is fantastic news @Busy-Lizzie. Still longer than it should have been, but the two of you deserve a break and you can have a nice Christmas before hand [ just try to avoid getting COVID ]
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Thank you @punkdoc. OH has had 5 vaccinations, I've had 4 and Covid but we will try to steer clear of it. I hope the nurses' strike won't upset anything.

I agree. I also agree about sending them all a chronology of events since your OHs first referral … approximate dates will do … a chronology is very powerful in health and social care settings.
Edited to say: Result @Busy-Lizzie 👍 So pleased to hear that. Fingers very crossed for no more hiccoughs 🤞

Poor BusyLizzie and OH. It really is scandalous how he has been treated. I would still write to the PALS people at the hospital, explaining the timeline and the delays, tell them that you would hate this to happen to others, and that these delays deserve an investigation. If nothing else, it might help to ‘focus their minds’ on making sure that OH’s op is not subject to any further delays. I would definitely mention the wording of the phone call you got, implying that OH is a new patient, and that this woman, whoever she is, seems to be making clinical decisions about what is urgent and what isn’t. Some mistakes being made that need identifying and correcting.
I was certainly under the impression that special protocols kicked in after a certain number of cancellations, to ensure that patients weren’t dumped at the back of waiting lists through no fault of their own. And whatever happened to ‘Choose and Book’ , or whatever it was called, that might have directed OH to treatment at an alternative hospital with a shorter waiting list? All so wrong, I am so sorry for you both.
@Busy-Lizzie, I agree wholeheartedly with all the other comments. Your OH shouldn't even be waiting 3 months. Has he indicated he's happy to take any cancellations that occur?
Another sunny, bright day after quite a lot of unexpected rain overnight which is good news. After my usual walk and read of the morning paper, I gave myself a strict talking to and got stuck into h/w, sorely needed as I've prioritised gardening instead lately. Just the guest bedroom to sort out tomorrow.
I've also organised prescriptions, chimney sweep, window cleaner and a hotel stay, waiting for a call back for the last one. It's OH's birthday next month so now he's a bit mobile, we thought we'd have a short stay in a city.
@Busy-Lizzie, well let's all cross our fingers that it really happens this time. I agree with previous comments about still writing to PALS with full timeline. Your OH just seems to fall through the cracks.

Quite a heavy frost overnight, but looking like another nice day.
Builders not quite finished, but hopefully today.
