Morning all. Hugs to @punkdoc and Moira and everyone else who needs, or just wants one
We need one please.
We've just had a call from a woman at the NHS Hospital to tell OH that his operation will be in 10-12 months time. OH nearly exploded. It's already been cancelled 5 times. She said he was a new patient. We both spoke to her and explained that he is an NHS patient who has been waiting 3 years since he was first referred. We told her that the surgeon had told us on Tuesday that it would be in January. She said that wasn't possible because of the Covid setbacks and the problem with the hospital roof. She hadn't even spoken to the surgeon. The surgeon had told us that he was in charge of his waiting lists. I looked up the waiting list for the hospital and the average for orthopaedic surgery is 24 weeks. The woman was cross with OH for upsetting her. He wasn't rude, didn't swear, but of course he was upset. I think she was very unprofessional, it's not about her it's about the patients. She said she'd talk to the surgeon by Wednesday. She should have spoken to him before she rang.
OH was fit and healthy before all this. People thought he was young for his age. Now he is in constant pain, one leg is now shorter and thinner than the other, he needs a crutch for walking a short distance, uses a buggy, has a blue card. It's really affected our lives for the last 3 years.

That is just awful, @Busy-Lizzie. I would contact the consultants secretary, tell her what happened and then the surgeon can try and sort it out. unfortunately nowadays surgeons do not control their own operating list, despite what they might think. You could if you wanted, make a formal complaint to the hospital, about your care, to the PALS service.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

oh @Busy-Lizzie that is just appalling. I hope the consultant who saw him last week can do something to help the situation. Your OH is so obviously not a “new” patient. I think its time to start writing to people at your hospital with a clearly laid out timeline of all that has happened in the last 3 years. And copying it to your MP would be a good idea too (doesn’t matter if its Ms Truss - she will have people who deal with her constituents)
Oh no @punkdoc - that NND from hell is just being malicious. There ought to be some kind of protection against it. Brr @Pat E! Sounds like you are having a lovely time @Allotment Boy. 'Old age' was on my MIL's death certificate @Nanny Beach. It seems somehow kinder to put that for people who have lived so long. My MIL was also 96 when she died. I'm shocked @Busy-Lizzie! I hope you take punkdoc's advice. I'm still working on the Food & Drink Festival which is now in a couple of weeks. It feels a bit like how the pavement looks when it rushes up to meet you if you fall.
We'll wait until Wednesday when she should have spoken to the consultant then we'll start sending letters to PALS, Liz Truss etc. I'll ask OH to ring the surgeon's secretary but she is fairly new and not easy to get hold of. He has spoken to her before. Thank you for the advice.
