A very important task is to alert you lot to the fact that I do not intend to get up early on my holiday and start October’s Hello Forkers thread … one of you lot will have to do it. Do we have any volunteers? Or will you just wait and see who wakes up first next Saturday and hope they remember?
Once I’ve started the new month’s thread I usually do a last post on the old thread linking to the new one, and then ‘Report’ the last post to the Mods with a note asking them to lock the old one when they have a moment.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It's raining! Not forecast. I had planned to weed the veg garden today but daughter 2 rang to ask if she and the children could come to lunch. What with rain and lunch weeding is off! 😄
Sounds as though Charlie has found a girlfriend @D0rdogne_Damsel! 😉

Sad news about Hilary Mantel - too young and a great writer - I loved Wolf Hall.
I've had 3 days in London - first time since March 2020, so a bit of a shock to the system. I went to a party - sort of a work do but very informal. Crowded pub, everyone shouting, perfect conditions for catching Covid, of course. I am therefore now in quarantine, sleeping in the spare room and wearing a face mask if OH and I have to be in an enclosed space (like the car). Not fool proof by any means, but just trying to reduce the risk I might pass it on if I have caught it. Not sure how long I have to stay in purdah before I can do a test. A few days, I suppose.
Glad to be home again to peace and quiet and cool clean air

Good afternoon, after a dull start it's turned out quite a dry bright day, very nice except we need more rain. Very wise @raisingirl, I think 2-3 days before testing is right. The numbers in London are going through the roof again and it's not even winter yet. I was waiting for a gardener to come to do some pruning that I can't reach (he's got a bigger ladder) but he just texted to say his van was broken into last night &he's still waiting for the glass people to turn up so he can't come Ah well off to the plots then.
Hello all, apart from my usual walk and a bit of pruning/cutting back together with constructing a new bug hotel in an old chest of drawers, I haven't done a lot today. It has been very warm and sunny again so rather nice out in the sunshine.
We're going to a large Xmas lunch tomorrow with our car club, usually held in February but postponed because of covid. It's a good 2 hour drive so we'll need to set off early. OH might try driving some of the way. Not sure what to wear - something red and in the spirit maybe.
Sorry Dove, won't offer to set up October as I know I won't be awake that early!
Hope Hostafan's packed his wellies! Could do with some of his rain here. I gather Canada's being hit with a big storm - not nice.
Daughter and 2 children came to lunch and stayed all day. One son didn't come, at a birthday party. We had a look at my little river, it's dried up, first time ever. P said it never dried up. We are now having a thunder storm and heavy rain. Some of my plastic guttering has holes from the hail storm, but that's a minor bother. I feel so sorry for all those who still have black plastic sheeting on their rooves. Repairs seem to be advancing very slowly.
