Afternoon all, lovely sunny day again but I think rain is forecast for us tonight, really need it, the ground is so dry. I want to dig some perennials up either to move them or pot them up but struggling to get a fork in.
Thank you all for your anniversary best wishes. We enjoyed our day with two lots of visitors and the dinner out was very moreish. I had a chicken roulade followed by chocolate torte and OH had hazelnut encrusted lamb followed by sticky toffee pudding and honeycomb crisp.Ā We were a bit bemused that the menu was almost exactly the same as 2 months ago though. They only offered a choice of 4 mains and 4 desserts, plus cheese.Ā
Really pleased that my son called to ask if he could stay tonight, he's at a big meeting in Bath today. I haven't seen him since last July so looking forward to seeing him. A quick change in bedding beckons, it's on the line and I'm back in the single bed.
Glad your new girl was helpful @D0rdogne_Damsel, probably makes all the difference.
Our recycling bins were collected as usual but the green waste bins haven't. We've been asked to leave them out until Sat night as they'll try to catch up. Both bins are full as OH went mad yesterday and decided he was fit enough to get the scarifier out and do the front lawn!
Good afternoon, all. Got logged out from my account two days ago, and didnāt have my password, so quickly catching up. Belated Happy Anniversary to Lizzie. Enjoy the lovely weather, Hostafan. Sorry to hear that your OHs hip saga is still continuing, BusyLizzie. Hope things settle down to a manageable pace, Dordogne Damsel, and you can get away to your holiday in a suitably relaxed frame of mind. Hope Punkdoc is starting to feel better? Lovely to hear from you again, SamBevington, was a bit worried. Apologies to anyone Iāve missed! Mind you, itās only been two days since I was last logged in! Just seemsĀ like a lot has been happening.
A real rollercoaster of a day here...Ā My friend who's organised our holiday messaged to say that the French air traffic controllers strike was possibly going to be disruptive enough to have our flights to Corfu cancelled as we wouldn't be allowed to travel over French air space, she'd come up with a Plan B and we were heading off to Mexico, in the other direction.... None of us really fancied Mexico, but a pool and sunshine beckoned and we'd at least be together. Then there was talk of a baggage handler's strike and technical staff and we were discussing, reluctantly, postponing until January.... Then suddenly, we got news that the air traffic controllers have called off the strike and now we're all set to go again. I cancelled the train to London, although a technical hitch means the last leg ( and most expensive bit) wouldn't allow me to cancel, I keep logging in to check, anyway, we're going, that's the most important thing. š
Then Charlie phoned, so pleased to hear from him, he's been playing it cool and not phoning, "too busy mum". Lots of news from school, still loving it, was in a school council delegate election and was the surprise winner in the 1st round, lost in the 2nd round by one vote, and being the gentleman he is, he hadn't voted for himself, but his friend, whom he thought would be better at it than him. Bless.Ā
He's bought himself some new clothes because it turned cold and I said I'd send him the money, he insisted he doesn't need it and can afford his own clothes, I mustn't worry about it. Then he said, don't come and collect me this weekend, I'll get the train by myself. I know it sounds silly but I feel he doesn't need me anymore. Of course it's good for him and very sensible,Ā but has left a little ache in my heart. But, it's the first time he's phoned me in 3 weeks, so that was nice. š
Not liking these evenings closing in so fast. š
@Hostafan1, I'm on sober September, so I'm on Sprite too, with a dash of lime cordial too, makes it much better...live dangerously, try it. š Ā Gosh, I've waffled, have a good evening all. I'm going to bed with Cormoran Strike, downloaded the new book for my holiday but really got into it.... it'll be finished before I get there.Ā Any suggestions for holiday reading, I don't do romance, enjoy a good murder mystery with a flawed hero detective.... really ought to try something more educational, although Charlie is set to send me his reading list, I do know Ćmile Zola and MoliĆØre are on it....so perhaps a something a bit lighter on holiday is deserved. š
Good night all.Ā

Good evening everyone,Ā volunteer day today spent most of the time watering as it's so dry again.Ā Also scooped huge amounts of blanket weed from the pond. The weed is beginning to sink as the weather cools so hopefully getting it out now will mean less next spring.
Now yesterday, well you see it's like this. A weekĀ or so ago we happened to be in a wilko and OH was looking at tulip bulbs, but IĀ said " I don't think we should buy these cheap ones let's get some decent stock so hopefully they will last more than one season " So yesterday we went to Jaques Amand in Stanmore. Well talk about kids in a candy shop I don't think I have ever seen so many tulip varieties in one place. IĀ could feel the bank balance draing away as we looked, even worse OH has come away with their catalogue, & I think she's planning a return vist. Mad really as we don't have much space.Ā Ah well we will see.Ā š¤£
Gosh that was a bit of a roller coaster @D0rdogne_Damsel. Do hope you actually manage to get to Corfu somehow.
My son turned up on the doorstep just as I was getting dinner going, earlier than planned, changed his mind about dining out with his colleagues and thought he'd see his mum instead. Really enjoyed catching up his news, I very rarely see him on his own. He left earlier to go home to Bournemouth, will get more work done tomorrow if he didn't stay the night so I get to sleep in my own bed after all. BUT, he's left his wallet here! Frantically phoned him but he thinks he can manage without until his wife can pick it up on Sunday when she stays the night. It's all go here - and revolving beds!
Dangerous things, catalogues @Allotment Boy. I'm trying not to look at any bulb ones.
Apologies but my draft from yesterday was still here! I hadnāt posted it. It basically said Happy Anniversary to @Lizzie27 and feel better soon to @punkdoc, and a bit about filling my council garden waste bin moments after I brought the emptied one back.Ā
Busy work day but mostly as we have a run of staff sickness at the moment (not COVID) so we are extra busy plus thereās loads of admin and conversations that need to happen when staff are off sick.Ā
Just catching up on some tv with some homemade apple cake (with my own apples of course). Booster vaccine today and my arm is pretty sore.Ā

I hope you are home now @Busy-Lizzie and your knee "held up". Ā
Another beautiful warm autumn day.  Had a lovely lunch with a couple of friends in the village square at lunchtime.  Seiche à la plancha - love it!!  (Seared squid)  A couple of glasses of rosé and the chatter didn't end until 3.30pm.  Very enjoyable.
Goodness @Sam Bevington - it's been a while! Ā Welcome back Ā - how's the job going?
I think it will be nice for @Hostafan1 Ā when you get there @Dovefromabove Ā It may be difficult for him coming home.
We have good bin boys too here. Ā
I hope everyone has an enjoyable evening.
