That pretty swank @didyw !! Looks lovely with the plates displayed. You are lucky having rain @Busy-Lizzie We are expecting floods when the rain finally arrives here. The ground is so hard and parched. 80/90kmph is the norm on the main roads here except for the highway which is between 110kmph and 130kmph. @Pat E
I have been busy this morning (up at 6am) to rinse my green olives which I picked yesterday and soaked overnight in a washing soda solution to get rid of the bitterness. It has taken me an hour to get the water rinsed clear before putting them into a brine spiced with bay leaves, rosemary, thyme and fennel. There they'll stay. They can be mixed with garlic, basil and lemon zest and a little olive oil to serve with drinks - rinsed of the brine of course. They are fleshy and fat this year!
Optamologist for me this morning after walkies so I had better get a move on!
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ Goodness me @Pat E … that’s a bit of an adventure … well done you 👍 We have blue sky and sunshine here again but it’s a bit cooler … 13C … the app says that it’s foggy where son is, but he’s only 16 miles away so I don’t imagine it’ll take long for it to clear.
Your own olives @tui34 … that sounds marvellous. 😊 OH has just informed me that our kettle is leaking … he has boiled a pan of water on the hob for our cuppas. He says they have some kettles for sale in the shop so I’ll pop up there later this morning and he can sell me one with a good staff discount.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Good morning from a drizzly Devon. So nice to sleep in my own bed and not have a railway about 10m from the bed. The Wee Birdies are pleased I'm home and filled up their feeder. Hugs to all who need one.
How far was your journey @Pat E? Was there a motorway? In France, as Tui said the limit is 80 to 90 km on normal roads, which i think is quite fast. It's 96km in England which I think is far too fast on many of the country roads which are narrower and bendier than French roads. My car likes to be in 5th gear at 70 km and 6th gear at 90 km.
Should be a nice day today, gardening weather.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning everyone, after the rain yesterday, I need to get to the plots and get the 2nd early spuds out at last. I should have lifted them a while ago but the ground has been too hard. But now it's damp the slugs will be rampant so I have a heavy day ahead, see you all later.
Hi all. Glorious day here in East Devon, so we are up having breakfast overlooking the donkeys, with a decent walk to follow. Didn’t see any evidence of drizzle overnight here. Had a crown fitted on a back tooth yesterday, and I must say, it feels lovely! I was getting sick of the taste of cloves from the cement under the temporary crown. Might get some gardening done today while OH is watching the Formula 1. Good to be out of earshot if he sees something to rant about! Hope you all enjoy / survive the bank holiday weekend, probably dependent on whether it’s an excuse to get together with friends and family, or a reason to hunker down and avoid the tourists.
It’s just a country road BusyL. One lane in each direction with a broken white line in the centre. Takes about 25-30 minutes to go from our village to town.
@ergates, how did you get such a nice day, was raining here earlier, now grey and drizzly. oH has gone for a long walk while it’s cool and fresh.
I hope it doesn’t put the tourists off, the hospitality trade is in dire straights with the fuel costs, they need so much more trade to cover just the basics.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Morning all, that looks interesting @Hostafan1, is it yours?
Sounds a bit like my son @Dovefromabove, usually when he comes up for the rugby. I have not long bought a new kettle and love it, a white 'Hive' one from Morphy Richards. Great design as you just fill it from the tap straight into the lid.
Enjoy your morning @Ergates, it's just clouded over here but it was nicely fresh and sunny earlier.
Sad to say, our SIL got there too late last night (they'd had a very long journey). Her sister had died just earlier. At least the horrible waiting around is over. My sister is having a leisurely morning just relaxing as she had to drive all the way down. I think they're probably going home tomorrow.
Just waiting for our SM delivery to arrive then might take Sis to a GC for tea and cake if I think I can safely leave OH on his own. Following his physio session yesterday, he has to double the walking time twice a day. I'm a bit nervous with him going out without me but I suppose people who live on their own after the same op have to do it.
