He's here ... he brings his own drinks ... and he doesn't like cake or biscuits ... never has, not even when he was a child. His own children think he's very odd ... but they're happy to eat his share.

Good morning all, We survived the return journey, and everyone got their luggage this time but typically SD'S new case was the last one off the belt. We noted over 1/2 the plane just had carry on luggage, obviously planning for their return to Dublin, which was nearly as chaotic coming back as when we arrived. Still no news on her other case apparently she has to wait 21 Days before it's officially declared lost. @AnnaB Blimey it's a small world I too was brought up near Croydon the North side with the border of Upper Norwood, and Crystal Palace. One of my uncles had a smallholding in Selsdon (Len). His holding was right next to Jack Lanes nursery the track you drove down to get to Len went right past and round the back of Jacks. When Wates the builders gradually bought up the land for development, Jack was the only one that wouldn't sell in the end. Len was very reluctant but he saw how it was going and realised it was his retirement fund, he never really made much out of the smallholding otherwise. BTW in 1958 surely they were O levels I did mine in 1968-9.
The plumber has rerouted the pipework, it's all done and very neatly too ... having known a fair few plumbers I'm impressed with his work and have told Dyno Plumb so. He's also fitted a stylish new mixer tap in the kitchen because he noticed it had a bit of a drip. The plumber cleaned up very well, but OH is giving everything a thorough going over and re-filling the cupboards ... he wants me to let him get on with it so while he does that I'm knitting him a jumper and have ordered us a bit of a feast from Wagamama ... seems fair to me

Good news @Dovefromabove, sounds a good plumber. I like our local one too, except he's well over 6ft so towers over me. He's Irish with a lovely accent as well.
Glad you got back safely without too much delay @Allotment Boy, shame about the missing suitcase though.
My son had a flat in Upper Norwood a few years ago which I visited occasionally (didn't like driving around there much). It was an interesting and sometimes uncomfortable experience to be in the minority there. Coming from the sticks you don't realize just how multi-cultural big cities have become, especially London.
I've been out three times today, once to pick up the paper and fresh batons for lunch, secondly for my back and shoulder massage I missed last week (my shoulder was a mess apparently despite it not hurting lately) and then after lunch I walked down to the pharmacy to pick up another prescription for OH but bussed back as it was so hot and humid. I also managed to do another load of washing so feeling rather tired again.
I'm noting all the dates of GCE's and GSCE's people are posting lately and thinking, crikey, I feel old!!
A very posh actress friend of mine got caught for shop lifting in an even posher department store in Croydon, she said ‘Dahhhhling, if it’s good enough for Isobel Barnett it’s good enough for me’

Oh @Lyn that made me laugh out loud - the wonderful Isabel Barnett and the 'What's my Line' crew. Goodness if we dont watch out we will have to hold a memory meeting of all the Forkers who seem to have contacts with Croydon and the surrounding areas. @Allotment Boy we had a small holding near the beginning of Selsdon Vale, then when I married, hubby and I bought another one half way down and two doors away from his parents place. We all sold to Wates in very early '68 (I think) and all moved down to Sussex. You mention a Len and his name and that of Jack's Nursery do seem familiar but this old brain of mine just wont throw up the connection - yet. Glad to enjoyed your holiday in spite of the lost suitcase. @Dovefromabove your Daniel is a useful man to know it seems, so glad to hear that all your pipes are now operational. Have a good evening everyone.
I've done a bit of a marathon stint the last few days, probably the busiest week we've ever had and my main chef off to move house for four days. I don't want to sound big headed, but I've seriously challenged all my skills and come out smiling. I get such a buzz from it all. Love my customers and all my staff.
Tomorrow I'm spending all day with Charlie, we're shopping for Back to School, including bedding sets and toiletries as he'll be dorming..... Large lump in throat..... We're leaving early and having breakfast out, then lunch at KFC, my worst nightmare, his favourite, then in the evening we're celebrating his birthday a week early at a very nice restaurant, poor lad has to be installed at the dorms 31st August, his birthday, by 6pm.
I've hardly seen him this week, got a really tight hug when I finally came home tonight. Poor lad, he gets I'm so busy in the summer, but he misses me. So pleased we've got our ski holiday booked, he says he want to do that every year forever, even if he gets a girlfriend. Not sure my knees agree. 😅
Glad your plumbing is sorted dove. Have a fab time hosta. Hugs and best wishes to all, snow PatE, shocking. 😁

I had a Saturday job at C&As in West Croydon while I was at school, putting the labels on fur coats. I think the pay just about covered the train fare there and back!
