Son 2 and family's flight to France has been cancelled, British Airways. They were stuck at Southampton Airport with 4 small children and a baby.
British Airways have been no help. Son and DIL found a hotel in Southampton, most were full. They've found a flight Gatwick to Bordeaux tomorrow but I think their car is at Bergerac. They will have to take taxis from Southampton to Gatwick and from Bordeaux to Bergerac costing a fortune. Lucky that they are quite well off. I wonder what all the other passengers have done, especially those with children.
Meanwhile Son and family arrived here, late afternoon, difficult drive because of road closures and fires.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Just been out in the cooler evening air watching the bats hunting around the big ash tree.
Then there were four really loud bangs … sounded like the flares they used to let off at Southwold Harbour to summon the lifeboat crew … no reason on earth to be letting them off at 9:30 on an evening like this. What idiots there are about 🙄

Just back from a lovely bike ride. Left it til 6.30 to set off, so the heat was subsiding a bit. Went on our new favourite route - a path along the route of a disused railway line to Chichester, and then the quiet back roads to the lovely village of Bosham. Sat and watched the harbour comings and goings for a while, then back whence we came. Just had a very late pasta dinner using all the veg from the garden.
Tomorrow I am volunteering at a Jousting festival. 32 forecast and no shade. Will take a hat, an umbrella/parasol, many bottles of water. If I had known the forecast, I would not have agreed to do it 🤦🏼♀️
Hope Mr @Lizzie27 has a more comfortable night tonight.
Great christening gift @punkdoc ……I loved them when I was a girl, and loved them all over again when reading them to the Chicklets. His books of verse were great too - Alexander Beetle was a particular favourite of mine 🐜……it’s difficult to catch an excited sort of beetle you’ve mistaken for a match
Evening all, hope you are all feeling a bit cooler now with the evening temperatures. It's been a bit over hot today hasn't it! Hope your OH's eyesight continues to improve @Pat E, and @Lizzie27 that your OH is feeling better after his upset today. Lovely to hear the news about your neighbours @punkdoc - great idea about the Winnie the Pooh books as a christening prezzie. I am going to ask you all for your good wishes (and crossed fingers) over the next 8 weeks or so. We have a young JR pup who has a problem. We rescued her some 5 months ago (she was 7 months old) not in a very good state. But she has come on in leaps and bounds and is now a happy, healthy and confident young lady. However soon after we got her we notices that she limped a lot on one hind leg. Vet visit and ex-rays showed that the 'ball' that goes into the 'socket' of the hip joint was 'dead' and had not developed properly. She has LEGG-CALVE-PERTHES disease (look it up if you want, @punkdoc will know what I mean). So the poor little girl has got to have a FHO (femoral head ostectomy - have I got that right?) She will have the 'ball' bit removed, but they tell us that given time and the correct treatment, exercises and care, she will be able to use her leg normally. They only do this op with young pups/dogs, any older ones have to have a full hip replacement. Treatment for her will be a little different from the normal ligament operation where complete rest is needed. Our little one will have to be walked on a lead several times a day (after the first week) and even encouraged to slowly climb steps, there may be some swimming and other exercises all designed to build up the strength in her ligaments, muscles and blood supply to support her leg that will have no 'fixture' at the top. We have a huge supply of cages of all sizes plus frames that can be assembled as 'pens' of any size, but this is a little lady who has been having the run of the farm, house, sleeps on the bed and enjoys loads of rough and tumble with her sister JR - they are only 2 weeks apart in age, sister is going to somehow learn that playtime is over from now on. Operation will be next Tuesday and daughter has re-organised her work so she works on Monday, Tuesday - after dropping pup off - and Wednesday morning if vets keep pup in overnight as recommended. From then on she will be off work until the following Tuesday so we can work together as needed on special care. Worst of it is is that next Wednesday is little pup's 1st birthday - what a birthday present!! Oh and her name is Pippen and she's just a little scrap weighing approx the same as a bag of sugar, bless her. Apologies for massively long post!

Thank you @Loraine3. I told them to keep receipts.
