Has anyone ever dealt with Land Registry following the death of a spouse to transfer sole ownership to the surviving spouse?

Hello @Hostafan1, as far as I know, that is not something the Land Registry do - you will need a solicitor to draw up the necessary deed and they will then register the change of ownership for you. It will of course involve a cost, so you should ring round and get some quotes.

You do not necessarily need to do anything now but if you ever want to sell the property, it would have to be done before a sale then which might take extra time.

I feel rather stupid today, I raced to Tesco's this morning, came back and cleaned and tidied the house, helped OH to get up and washed and waited for our friends to call in for coffee. After a wait, I checked the text, got the wrong Friday!!! Oh well, at least everything's done and we can relax.

Do hope your plumbing gets sorted Dove and OH isn't too cross about his cupboard.

My mother did @Hostafan1, with the help of my sister. It all worked out fine in the end but I don't know what they went through.

Only a few days now before I go to Norfolk, Wednesday.

This morning I went to collect the winter duvet from the cleaners so I thought I'd have a look round Ribérac market. It was packed, almost as many English voices as French. Luckily someone drove out of a parking place, the car park was full. It was all very animated and colourful. I've never seen such huge tomatoes! Loads of clothes stalls, also shoes, handbags, bedding and plants. But food of all sorts was the main part. I've been before but not in the summer holidays.

Son 1 and family are coming tomorrow afternoon. It should be just over 2 hours drive for him but some of the roads are closed because of the forest fires along the west coast so it will probably take longer.

I'm helping at the village fete tomorrow morning, selling raffle tickets. I have to bake a cake this afternoon to sell. I hope it doesn't make the kitchen hot. I'm doing a spiced apple and fruit cake as I don't want icing that will melt.

Perfect @hostafan 1   .... I find most small country solicitors firms are really helpful like that ... and anyway the likelihood is that, should you decide to sell at any time in the future, they'll get your custom so they'll make their money that way.

Plumber has tidied away and gone ... we have no hot water in the cloakroom but otherwise everything is working and the leaking pipe has been capped ... he says someone will contact me to arrange the rerouting of the pipework ... I asked if it will be him as he's sussed out where to re-route it to,  and he's said he'll tell them we want it to be him if possible.  He will also put a new mixer tap on the job sheet as it's dripping.

I've put the saucepans back in the saucepan cupboard (yes he had to empty that too) but I've left the crockery cupboard so that OH can see that he's put the boards back almost perfectly.  We'll tidy the stuff away together this evening.

Now to collapse on the sofa with a mug of soup ...

Off to bed earlier than usual because Hubby isn’t watching tv so much with two uneven visions 😁. However, he says he can see other things around the house that he couldnt before, so the cataract removal of the first eye is a success. 👏👏. Night all.

Pat E, I remember driving OH back from his first cataract surgery, and he was marvelling at what a difference it had made so quickly. Came as a shock to him how much his eyesight had gradually deteriorated.

Hostafan, have you been using the gov.uk website? Quite a lot of useful information on what needs doing and how to do it. Good luck, and continue to take it easy when you can. Look after yourself.

Same here Dove,  I needed a witness to my signature,  made the appointment secretary said it would be £10.00.   I took out my purse and went to give him the money,  he took a cystic fibrosis collection tin from his drawer and said that his child had this and a donation would be good enough.  So I put the £10.00 in the tin.  Very nice man as well.

We haven't had your particular circumstance to deal with @Hostafan1 but the Land Registry standard forms are all pretty simple and clear. We've done a couple of land transfers without a solicitor being involved and no problems (including conveyancing a house  :o) It gets messy when there are banks and mortgages involved, which is when we've had to get a solicitor involved. Always reassuring to have a bit of guidance anyway if you've not done it before.
