I found going ‘cold turkey’ the best way @Pat E … I stopped … gave OH my cigs and asked him to hide them, but if I phoned him up and asked where they were he was to tell me. (We weren’t living together back then and we were miles apart). I had too much pride to ask him and I wouldn’t let myself buy any so they’re probably still up the chimney of that student house in Warwick Street 😂 That was getting on for 30 years ago … I’ve not had one since but I know that if I had just the one I’d start again. I’m still a smoker … it’s just that I don’t smoke. I understand addiction. 😶

Morning everyone, I worked with a chap whose wife smoked, one day after a talk at school about smoking their son glued the top of the packet shut on his mums cigarettes. The boy was about 10 at the time. My mum did the same as you Dove went cold turkey, she stopped after one of the big tax rises, put an unopened pack in a drawer, but never did open it.
We finally have steady rain, started about 8:30 typical after all the promises of rain in the night, now its set for the whole morning, I'll take it though we desperately need it.

I really admire you non smoking smokers, unfortunately I still smoke and I enjoy it too much to stop. I come from a generation of doctors who did all the bad things, whilst telling their patients not to.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I can relate to your experience Dove. I started smoking when I was a student nurse. (1975). Then years later, living in Darwin, we bought fish and chips from a Chinese takeaway. I got food poisoning from it and couldn’t face anything for days. It was the perfect opportunity to give up smoking. Not that it was easy once I got well again, but decided it was the perfect opportunity to give up.

Oh I enjoyed it @punkdoc … I still would enjoy it … but I met OH and he had asthma … but he tried smoking so that I didn’t ‘taste horrid’ … how could I carry on smoking then? 😳

Morning all, Sorry to hear about your daughter @Pat E hopefully this 'scare' will give her the nudge she needs to give up. Both my husband and father gave up smoking cold turkey but unfortunately they left it too late. I held my dad's hand while he died of lung cancer, a terrible way to go. Hubby has so far had stent's fitted, a heart attack which led to a quadruple by pass and a stroke. To be honest his retirement has been ruined all because of smoking. I've nothing planned for today, was hoping to get in the garden and started the day by digging up another clump of buttercup that I had been carefully nurturing but it started to rain so I have come inside for a cuppa hoping that I'll be able to get back out there later.
I smoked from 17 to 36 and gave up cold turkey. I'd tried cutting down but it didn't work. My first OH smoked 60 a day and died aged 53, so never got to retirement, heart attack, but he had emphysema and high blood pressure as well. I missed smoking for a year or two but now I'm so glad I don't smoke.

Thank you. I had a look at their site but they don't do boot cut jeans.
