Hi all, managed to get logged out of my account, and couldnāt get back in. Sorry to hear about the chook, but you gave it a couple of years of happy life it wouldnāt have otherwise enjoyed.Ā Trying to get house tidied before Easter visitors, while dog sitting sonās dog. I donāt know why, but I seem to have very little available time and energy after walks, feeding her, and taking her out to the garden regularly, alongside organising our own meals. Mainly lack of energy, Iām becoming convinced that I need my thyroxine dose upped. Canāt believe what I used to achieve on top of working a five day week, couldnāt do it now.
To carry on with my tale of woe about electricity. I told the electrician that I could hear a slight fizzing noise from the fuse box on the landing. He arrived this afternoon with another electrician. The fuse box was just about to catch fire!Ā Ā Glowing red, burnt, blackened wood. They have cut off that fuse box so there is no electricity in the main part of the house. But they got it going in the utility room, where there is a new fuse box as I had it rewired and the garage, where the electric gate controls and the water heater controls are. They rigged up a lamp in the kitchen, another in the sitting room and the TV and Internet from a socket in the utility room. Good thing I had some long extension leads. I've put the contents of the kitchen fridge into the utility room fridge. The freezer, washing machine, hot water tank, a radiator, a shower and a sink are all in the utility room. I gave them keys and they will come back while I'm in the UK and put in new wiring in places and a new fuse box.
Supper was cooked on the wood burning stove.
Off to bed upstairs in a minute, will need a torch.

Oh my @Busy-Lizzie what a good job they found it quickly, it doesn't bare thinking about what might have happened. Sounds like you have found yourself a good electrician, hang on to him.Ā
Thank goodness youāre ok @Busy-Lizzie š. And thank goodness youāve got good electricians you can rely on. I imagine theyāll enjoy being able to get on with things without their customer wanting to cook or clean etc at the same time. Sleep tight ((hugs)) x

@tui34, we are staying with our eldest son, he has lived in Queensland for over 20 years and until covid we visited at least once a year. We timed our visit this time so that we could help with childcare over school holidays.Ā We love it here but usually aim to be here during our winter months because of leaving the garden/allotment during planting and growing season. This time we came as soon as the borders were open and we were able. Veg seeds going to be very late this year but I usually plant them too early anyway so it may be an advantage.Ā
That sounds like a lucky escape @Busy-Lizzie.Ā Glad you're safe and that it can be fixed in your absence.
It's been cold here and wet but at least that means the potatoes, shallots, onions and beetroot plugs I planted out yesterday have been well watered in.Ā Expecting even more rain tomorrow and very strong winds so I wonder if the other old walnut will come down too.Ā Ā
Never did get on with Pink Floyd after Arnold Layne and See Emily Play but happy for anyone to support the Ukraine.
