    Morning all.

What's "The Scream", LB, another Rezzer tradition? By the way I will be doing unmentionables today as it looks like rain. I've finished hemming the sitting room curtains at last. Two French windows and one normal window.

Thank you all for the sympathy during my tales of woe.

Sad for your OH, @Songbird-1 , I hope he's OK.

I hope your plumbers turn up @Dovefromabove, love your description.

Good morning everyone🙂 What a horrid wet and very windy day it was yesterday. Fortunately(!??!) the start of a new tax year meant there was plenty of paperwork to keep me occupied indoors.

LB - what a horrendous energy price hike from BG. Do you know why it is so high? Do you think it's because you're on a really high cost tariff or simply because BG are hedging their bets as to how much energy you will actually use? It may be the latter and I suspect you should brace yourself for a long phone call. Make tea and have a wee before you dial😉

Dove - fingers crossed Anglian Water are in touch this morning. Those noises sound very alarming.

@Busy-Lizzie - I do hope the electrician gets things sorted out for you quickly and safely. What a narrow escape you had - thank goodness you were there to realise something was so very wrong. Hopefully a new consumer unit with modern safe guards will protect you and your house for the future. Terrible timing though.

I know the electric gate controls are on a different circuit etc but do you need to take any additional measures to ensure you can get back into your property when you return to France? eg Is there a mechanical gate release you can leave with a neighbour - just in case?

Right - I need to get on with sorting out clothes and stuff. OH has gone karting this weekend and this afternoon I'm off to Madingley Hall (part of Cambridge Uni) for a 2 day residential course about medieval hospitals. Have done a few courses there before, and they are always very sociable, enjoyable affairs and the food is excellent. Accommodation is in a large listed tudor manor house with beautiful gardens.

The 9am start and 10pm finish for lessons is always a shock to the system but means we get a lot of learning packed in! Not really looking forward to having to wear a mask all day (compulsory) or to the 'well ventilated' classrooms. Need to pack some warm layers!

@Topbird there is a mechanical gate release, can only be used from inside, but there is also a side door in the wall which I have a key to and the handy man, CB, has one too. I've just had another cut for the electricians. The electricians are English but have been working around here for a long time and are well known by the local English. They understand the French system which isn't quite the same as the English.

Morning all,  Quite a nice day here fluffy clouds, sunny intervals and the wind has dropped so it's a bit warmer.  I wish I had the energy to go out and get stuck in but after pulling half a dozen weeds and deadheading some daffs I've had to retire to the sofa with a cuppa.  Can't believe how tired I am and it's not as if I'm not sleeping.  Never mind I'm sure things will improve soon.  Stay safe and well everyone.

I thought you'd have it sorted @Busy-Lizzie but I know how easy it is to overlook something simple when you're feeling so stressed🙂 Hope everything works out ok.

    Afternoon all,

We had David Jason this morning but it's a cracker now. I worked until 4am last night but I've just finished for the week so I can get cracking outside now :)

  • Ante so pleased Max is on the mend and hope all goes well with the vet tomorrow.  Try to get some rest too.  Dove that sounds a horrendous noise, hope you’re soon sorted.  LB I hope youre enjoying the canasta with the group.  Chive I caught Alfie chewing the new curtain lining, there is already a hole in the door curtain, he retreated surreptitiously.  Busy you’ll be pleased you’ve hemmed the curtains, things are coming along.  A cool morning and an early start, a buttered tea cake for lunch and some pottering.
  • Top bird I used to go karting years ago, such good fun.  I hope you get your jobs out of the way and can enjoy some tea or a little something.  Oh should be in good spirits.  My summer dress arrived today it’s lovely so pleased even better than the picture, a maxi dress with short sleeves, very Laura Ashley for warmer days, here’s hoping.  Big lad remember to sleep.
