Having a bad time here. The lights started flickering last night then the electricity went off. I saw the neighbours across the paddock had lights, then I found that the light over the woodburning stove still works, also the bedroom corridor and bedroom 3. The heated towel is OK and 2 sockets in the sitting room work, one has the TV in it. Nothing else works, no fridge, no freezer, only one electric radiator in the sitting room works. Internet and phones were off. I went to bed as too late to do anything, slept really badly and mobile phone woke me at 2.30am with an automated message from the burglar alarm.
Rang the EDF this morning, they said the electricity is arriving at the Smart metre and it's probably a fuse box problem. They said to call an electrician. Luckily the nice English electrician's phone number was on my mobile so I rang him. He came, confirmed that the fuse box is on the blink. It has more than one circuit and only one is OK. But he's in the middle of another job, said he could do it next week but I'm off on Monday afternoon. He rang a bit later, said he'd come back late afternoon but it could be 2 days work.
I've found some extension leads which reach to Internet, computer and the store fridge in the garage. So now I have a phone and Internet and I've put the meat and milk in the garage fridge instead of the one in the kitchen. Electrician said not to plug in the freezer yet as I mustn't overload the circuit.
It should have been an enjoyable day today with a meeting of the Gardeners Club this afternoon, first meeting for 2 years thanks to Covid, but I can go to that.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all, Sorry to hear about your leccy problems BL. Why do these things happen at the most inconvenient times. Hope it all gets sorted before you go away. Cold and miserable here so no gardening. I'm still coughing. Hubby went to physio and he gave him some exercises to do. That's fine if you can get out of bed and move. Not so good if you can't. I'm taking him to get a massage today so hopefully that will help.
Afternoon everyone, back from Sco with all items needed. Moment of madness maybe but I had put our wet things out on the whirligig before I left, they were well pegged on but still I was relieved to see everything when I got back 😅
Hazel Sorry to hear OH is still feeling lethargic I hope he starts to improve soon. Pleased to report the SM shelves looked well stocked & I didn’t see any shortages of essentials, but the prices have increased, LB I completely agree with your thinking, there are bigger worries to go round than a few sundries missing from the shelf. Hope your bins are safely stashed away now, Janet You are good to go shopping early, there are others here who are early risers to beat the crowds I’m not one of those unfortunately. I do take a list, often there are additions 😉 Biglad Glad there was no major damage from the winds, you just had all your pots looking so good. Hope your eldest is still feeling ok, Oh Busy You’ve had such a bad time with the electrics, I hope the electrician can replace the fuse box and get your power restored as soon as he can. Such a shame it had thwarted your plans to meet with the gardening group today. The only silver lining I suppose is that you were there when it happened 😕 Yvie Sorry to hear you are still coughing, I hope the massage helps OH so he can start the physio exercises, Have a nice afternoon everyone.
@Biglad Pleased your eldest is fairing well under the circumstances. Must admit I had half expected to see my washing around the neighbourhood as I drove home 😂
Chive sm fairly well stocked but I didn’t hang around before it became busy. I didn’t have a list with me Janet, sometimes do. LB apparently there’ll be shortages of sunflower oil but online saying it was very bad for health. I rarely use oil. I do feel for the people of Ukraine. Busy so glad you could contact a leccy and hoping things soon resolved. LB I hope youre feeling ok after getting soaked the other day. Keep warm. Lily I hope it will soon pass do keep warm and drink plenty. I’ve had a few hours sleep and had tea. I thought it was Friday when I woke but evening Thursday rather than morning Friday. Time for a mug of tea. LB the heated cape is very useful.
Hello all. Newly shorn and tinted. Janet, I'm an early shopper. Its great when the SM is almost empty of folk. I always have a list - starts every time with 'cat food'. After that I go rogue!
Poor you Busy! What a total nightmare for you - especially with your trip back to Norfolk in the offing. Fingers crossed your kind Sparks can get things sorted.
Chive, I managed to get both mine and the neighbour's bin safely back into place when they had been emptied before I left for Bestie's.
Biglad, pleased to hear your eldest is rallying.
Yvie keep taking the tablets and I hope your OH manages to get some easier movement back.
RosieBB I am very tempted by the cape!
Handy brother told me today that his blinds are going to be fitted tomorrow. I am very impressed as it is only a week since I was down there letting the blind man in to do the measurements. He ordered a large shed yesterday and that is due to arrive on Tuesday 26th. Boys and their toys! He is very excited about the shed. I give him a week before he has it full of c**p.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
To carry on with my tale of woe about electricity. I told the electrician that I could hear a slight fizzing noise from the fuse box on the landing. He arrived this afternoon with another electrician. The fuse box was just about to catch fire! Glowing red, burnt, blackened wood. They have cut off that fuse box so there is no electricity in the main part of the house. But they got it going in the utility room, where there is a new fuse box as I had it rewired and the garage, where the electric gate controls and the water heater controls are. They rigged up a lamp in the kitchen, another in the sitting room and the TV and Internet from a socket in the utility room. Good thing I had some long extension leads. I've put the contents of the kitchen fridge into the utility room fridge. The freezer, washing machine, hot water tank, a radiator, a shower and a sink are all in the utility room. I gave them keys and they will come back while I'm in the UK and put in new wiring in places and a new fuse box.
Supper was cooked on the wood burning stove.
Off to bed upstairs in a minute, will need a torch.

Oh Busy you are going through it . I am so sorry you have so many things going on at the moment. I hope the electricians do a good job for you while you are away . Good job the electricians came . You were very fortunate that they cut the fuse box off .At least you have some electricity . It amazes me how many things seem to go wrong in a short time . Sending my best wishes . Have a good sleep . I think you need it . My mind has gone blank . I will say good night folks . See you tomorrow.

You must have nailed the wet things to the whirligig for them to stay on. They'd be in the town centre if I pegged anything out here
