@endeavourlondiniumE32axz5M My Lady EH produced strange shoots like that. I had posted a similar picture (an off shoot resembling a sucker) in the previous thread.. but the leaves were exactly same as the mother plant.. Just let her be and you will get nice new basals...

..thanks, and congrats too... nice to have a red rose on the table, even if it's not scented..

Amazing to see roses already arriving.

I have a question. I have a small ugly front lawn, bordered by a small hedge I'd like to keep in memory of the one who planted it. It's a north-north-east-facing lawn and gets two-three hours of sunshine a day at most. I'd like to dig up the grass and create a little flower garden there with perhaps a rosebush or three at the centre. What roses (and/or other plants) would thrive in these conditions? It's neutral/alkaline soil and bears the brunt of a lot of wind, as well as litter carried in on said wind and also thrown there by passing ne'er-do-wells. The area is approx 3m x 2m.

(I posted under an auto-generated name before, panda-something, generated from one of my children's Facebook accounts. This name relates to my life a lot more.  B) )

Hi, I think I remember you from previous with a panda name... so hello again..

As for roses for your location, I would avoid Hybrid Teas but anything Floribunda or shrub, Austin etc, would be ok, I wouldn't worry about the sun aspects..
As for other plants, difficult to advise without seeing what you have to work with, but I always choose plants which I like and want, and take it from there..

Difficult to be specific as it's such a personal choice..

... the 2nd photo is that 'Brother Cadfael' with the lovely red foliage?   gorgeous isn't it?
I notice the 2 cuties in the background too..

It's like a photo from one of those "dog experience - field of dogs, stress relief" type things! 😁

Sun's come out again so I think I'll go out this afternoon and try to get one of the beds fully weeded and mulched.
