I've been monitoring my Pheno Geno 'Pear' since I put it in the ground this Spring after a year in it's pot, and the results are quite remarkable...strong growth, no hint of disease and remarkably no trace of aphids (quite how it's managed that, I have no idea). I think it's the only plant in my garden which hasn't been infested with the things. I know a few people have bought the Pheno Geno group, so I would love to know if they have similar results as me.
My other roses, which are all Austins plus one Flower Carpet, did get aphids at the beginning when they were starting to regrow after pruning, but I have to say all are pretty clean now after a water hose blasting session a couple of weeks ago, plus ladybirds.
Cheating a bit as not my rose, but this red rose bush is in full bloom at Haughley Park in Suffolk where I am right now.
Lovely roses @pitter-patter, very delicate looking, and that bowl looks fab @Fire!
That Golden Showers rose is so incredibly vibrant, Eustace.
Your roses do look beautiful in a bowl, Fire. I can never bring myself to do that to roses, hellebores or camellias (can hardly bear to cut for a vase, in fact), but they always look their best that way.
Lovely chat with my old lady over the road neighbour, who cherishes a personal letter from the late Peter Beales (he replied when she wrote to him telling him how lovely his catalogue was). RESISTING the Peter Beales 4 for 3 potted roses, though, steadfastly. NOT even thinking about it.😁
Dull out today, apparently rain is forecast. I'm wondering how crazy-lady it would be to put out containers on the hard surfaces for collection purposes...
Here's one of my Albas, Celestial. It's got to about 6' this year although generally it flops over later in the year. You can't see it but I have a tiny Mme Ernest Calvat on the far side of the arch. I hope this will be a nice combination and one doesn't outshine the other. Celestial is not an ostentatious rose but I suspect Mme Ern might be. I can't picture it at all but the arch might end up separating the view so perhaps won't matter. Have plans to try some atragene type clems on the fence. I had climbing hydrangeas but they were taking ages and didn't shine.
Perle d'Or under aphid attack but still looking quite pretty in the border. Rambling Rosie glossing up the fence behind.
Buff Beauty with a smattering of buds, making its way up the railings I intend it to flop over. I'm probably going to have to cut that crazy cane closer to the plant for it to become useful.
Blush Noisette looking as smart as a carrot apart from a wayward arm. In a few years hopefully there will be a decent sized moss, Captaine John Ingram on the LHS and the clematis Helsingborg on the right if the latter stops being eaten.
Raining here a little bit on and off. I picked up some more Gertrude J flowers for the vase. It feels like a crime to cut off the only rose in the garden but this is the only way I can look at it all day. A Shropshire lad, to my eyes it is very beautiful. Mild fragrance.
Its a bit overcast with spots of rain here, been inside with a cuddly hound (hes hurt his back and wants cuddles along with his pain meds ) but I noticed Rhapsody in blue is out today and For your eyes only so pics to follow.
Noticed Loads of aphid larvae in the front hedge out of the window (I am not fussed about said hedge and blackfly..)... so rounded up a few and released in the back on the roses!
