Lovely roses and garden photos. I look forward to seeing this thread everyday. For me currently GJ is supplying a vase full of roses everyday. My deelish Line Renauld struggled to open in shade last year. I have put the pot in sunnier location for this year.
Which rose are you looking forward to most this year? For me from existing ones it is Evelyn and from new ones bring me sunshine.
..so many, difficult to choose Newbie, maybe 'Elizabeth' just to see what all the fuss is about.. 'Quatre Saisons'.. 'Devoniensis'... etc..
Your potted roses look great against the wall of your country property @Nollie impressive specimens.. I'd forgotten you had 'Line Renaud'.. it's almost as big as mine already, in fact I think it is.. does 'Soul' go really bad in rain? I was going to get it at one time but this put me off somewhat..
'Kew Gardens'.. 'Gruss an Aachen'.. ..and the deliciously sweet 'Kathleen Harrop'.. [Zephirine Drouhin's pink twin]
I think I'm looking forward to Bring Me Sunshine most of my new roses too @newbie77, closely followed by Soul. I do hope the latter can withstand british drizzle. Of my old ones Dames de Chenonceau followed by Mme. Isaac Pereire.
Roses against a stone wall like Nollie's look fabulous, I imagine DAs competition will be won by a climber on a weathered wall. I was pondering how they can choose from a submitted photo if they then photograph it themselves at a later date. Since I took a pic of England's Rose yesterday about a third of the blooms have shattered. I could read the rules myself but am wondering whether the early date means they want to judge a rose's potential ie location, bud number and bush form more than the submitted photo.
I am not too bothered about my delayed roses, as long as they will come good then I can wait. In fact I think I enjoy the beginning of roses coming most and am already fretting the end. Right now is perfect, the poised moment, the anticipation..
Lovely to see all your Roses blooming! I’ve only got one in bloom so far… a nice big Hybrid Tea Rose bought in a DIY shop once upon a time that I have forgotten the name for, although I feel @Marlorena was once able to remind me of it. A little frost damage but the blooms on it are quite nice and very strongly scented.
I have loads of buds on my older Roses, and a good few on my newly potted Olivia Rose Austin.
Stawberry Hill has none but is starting to grow quite vigorously, which is fine as I understand that’s the rep for a new one of those.
Newly planted Gertrude Jekyll has so far been quite vigorous in terms of putting on height and foliage but there’s not a single bud on her as yet. She went into a newly dug bed that had had lots of well rotted farmyard manure dug in so I wonder if she’s had a nitrogen overdose.
ciaranmcgrenera , it might be double delight but I cam not sure.
@owd potter, that is a very beautiful rose. love its colour and the way the center is open.
@tack, I am also not too bothered for roses to take their time. I am not yet done with Camellias, magnolias, azalias etc and I want all the bulb foliage to get done and removed before roses come to their full flush. I do wish some more pots had come to flowers now. I think it was my late prune plus vine weevil hunt has delayed them. Anyway good that I did that hunt, the rose affected by vine weevil is recovering now after repotting.
All competitions are essentially daft and random in my book, just a way to drum up interest. A nice collections of photos might come out it for DA. They are on Instagram, no doubt.

plus gorgeous deep, deep, red roses.
Do you do B&B ?...
Unknown buxom floribunda transplanted from front garden last winter, strong citrus fragrance.
Nollie, fancy a house swap? Surely you would prefer a mid-terrace house in Luton...😁
