Welcome from me too @MuseLea, lots of lovely roses to look forward to. You must have read my mind, I was wondering what happened to the clematis thread, I don’t think there was one last year. Here is a link to the 2020 one:
I’m sure Marlorena and others will have lots of suggestions for you. I have a new Etoile Violette to cover a big wall and a Warsawska Nike to go with a pink rose on an obelisk. I love purple with pink roses and WN is a really good doer. These are the only two I have though.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@celcius_kkw ..nicely trained ^ that's the modern way today, twirling the stems around, it should give you a good effect.. I'm looking forward to seeing the results there .
@MuseLea ...I'd probably squeeze in more than 10 in a plot that size, but then I would, which doesn't mean anyone else should.. 10 is probably quite enough so your hubby is right..
I did a Clematis thread in 2019, I don't know if I'll do one this year, maybe someone else might.  I grow 'Niobe' with a pink rose, I think they go well together.. I used to grow it with Mary Delany when I had that rose, but there are so many to choose from, it's so personal.. happy choosing..Â
edit.. as I've just seen Nollie's post above.. I forgot about that thread too.. somebody needs to do one this year.. I'm hoping to do a perennials and grasses one later, so I don't want to see my name all over the shop ..
@celcius_kkw - I like the way you’ve trained yours. It’s similar to how I’ve done Lady of Shalott and Mary Delaney. Very little horizontal space so rather than fanning out I’ve got them bending inwards.
Its worked well with Lady of Shalott she’s covered in laterals.
@MuseLea I would say my plot size is similar to yours and I have literally stuffed it with pots.. where there is a will, there is a way (and an empty wallet)..
Freezing overnight temps for 4 nights in a row.. I feel sad for my roses..
Munstead wood here.. hope it survives the cold blast..
I managed to tidy up some of the front today while baby was playing on his mat. There’s still so much to be done though!
I also have two spare 60cm planters which are asking for roses. Because of the placement, they’d need to be relatively thornless. They’d be in the sun all day so any suggestions? I was thinking of souvenir de malmaison but it seems to be out of stock everywhere!Â
I’m also tempted by the DA sale but feel like I have too many DAs already. Is Gabriel Oak worth it?
also, any tips on preventing ants from using roses as an aphid farm? I’ve already seen this activity on my two Young Lycidas roses out front.Â

Rambling Rosie in the middle. In the green pots: Odyssey on the left and standard Orange Meilove on the right.
