Red roses have something special about them.. (I guess I say that about all the roses :#
@Fire wonder how it would look once all your climbers have matured and blooming.. would be a feast..

@Tack I held back from buying Odyssey just coz they mention it has moderate fragrance.. love the stamens contrasting against purple/ lavender petals...

@Marlorena I remember your La France purchase.. probably the last one they had in stock before it was sold out last year.. I too wanted a Fragrant Tea but was sold on the colour of CC.. me too have a mystery rose which is supposed to be yellow but its buds are red... anyways, will know for sure in a week or so...

@AlliumPurpleSensation love that red foliage.. one of my Kordes rose is still red and about 2 feet tall.. so it gives a nice contrast to the neighboring rose's foliage.. (My idea of having an Acer Palmatum)

@Fire I am still waiting for my cuttings to root (if at all) and in the meantime I am not sure if I should buy another one..in case I end up with more than I can handle..  plus I am keen to try out new varieties..

I spotted this on my boscobel today.. not sure what to make of it.. the rest of the foliage look entirely normal so doesn’t come across as chlorosis as otherwise it should have been more systemic ? The yellowing appears to be so well demarcated and limited to one half of this particular leaf..

Maybe someone can recommend a healthy, big, vigorous, perpetually flowering climber for Adrian.

Regarding climbers , these were some of the ones that I was looking at the last year for my arch non DA.

Mieke van Lommel ( summer flowering )
    Madame Gregoire staechelin ( summer)
     Desprez a Fleurs Jaunes
    Laure Davoust
    Ducher Rambler

Leontine Gervais ( summer flowering . everytime I see pictures , I ‘m thinking where can I find a spot)

@celcius_kkw - probably just a freaky leaf. If it's the only one on the plant. It's stem got strangled a bit and it's not managing to transfer nutrients correctly? Or it just fancied a change?

@cooldoc Odyssey definitely has a pleasant fragrance, I get melon and something else evocative of something floral which eludes me. I wouldn't say heady/strong, maybe upper medium,  HMF has member ratings as excellent for fragrance (only 3 voted though).

Just curious- for those of you who propagate roses from bought ones, what's your success rate like? It looks so easy on YouTube or Gardener's World, but they seldom return to show you the results.

At the weekend, I went on an insect-removing bender but they're all back on every bud and bit of new growth. Reluctant to buy in ladybirds as one neighbour merrily uses insecticide and I don't want ladybird blood on my hands.😐

@Tack, missed your comment earlier, notifications sometimes don’t work when the internet is playing up, as it did yesterday after a big thunder and rainstorm with more hailstones! We would normally be up to a month ahead of the UK here but a late and prolonged freeze killed early growth and buds. Think the storms are over for the time being, due to get to 30c by the end of the week!

For a large flowered single, Odyssey has the edge over Astronomia (Sweet Pretty) I think, the latter not having any scent.
