Thanks heaps everyone for the info on cuttings. I really regret not thinking to have a go at pruning time (given I will have a whole new small south-facing border to plant in and about six metres of west-facing fence-line sometime later this year).
This is a gorgeous thread.
Also, does anyone follow DA on FB? We were all sighing over that gorgeous Odyssey rose a few days ago, and DA have just posted a video of a gorgeous gorgeous English rose in the most captivating shade of lavender. Of course it isn't for sale and we can't buy it as it's just used for breeding. The big teases.
Second bloom to flower - Kew Gardens and lots more on the way. Kew Gardens was actually the first to flower this year as it was flowering in February when I pruned it!
^that Geranium is rather nice.. a sanguineum type by the looks of it..
@WhereAreMySecateurs ..yes I saw it on Instagram.. rather amusing.. reminds me of the Tantau rose 'Rainy Blue' which is only sold in Japan, and causes as much excitement from those who want it, but can't get it..
I’m not on any social media, apart from this forum. I kind of resent/am irritated that everyone has gone over to Instagram - including all the artists, gardeners, env people  and designers I’m interested in following. I really don’t want to open social media accounts, having closed them all down. I want less screen time not more. But I am indeed missing all their profuse content. 😟
Just looked up that rose, Marlorena. How funny that growers can drum up excitement in much the same way that beauty companies market "rare" facial serums.
I always fancied Lavender Crush (US only) @WhereAreMySecateurs, then there is Quicksilver (US and Italy so far), but I settled for Love Song, which has large lavender blooms, neat habit, but sadly not much in the way of fragrance:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie, I was about to say Love song is the closest I have to that rose. My Novalis was terrible in rain so I got rid of it. I also have a mystry rose which looks similar. I wanted to get Charles Rennie Mackintosh but it was out of stock when I ordered my new DAs.Â
