..thanks for all the advice, well we've had everything open all day, so got that all wrong, but I just couldn't imagine not opening windows, it doesn't seem right, yet the temps in the house have been almost as hot as outside... I was afraid with the windows shut we would suffocate but we feel as though we have in any case..
I've only experienced this kind of tropical hot wind in Australia and India during brief visits..
I have heard plunging ones hands into a sink of cold water helps, and I have found this useful..
Just to add.. it's been so hot inside, mid 90's in the house 35C.. that our T.V lost the sound, picture is ok, but no sound, so something must have gone. I just read Met Office report and they said electrical systems can be affected in these conditions. We might have to get a new tele..Â
This is Lovestruck, the real colour is a much brighter red (same sort of colour as a kitkat wrapper) but it has been flowering since 14th May. There are still lots of buds on it and it shows no signs of being affected by the weather. I did feed it again when the other roses were fed after their first flush and it has been watered but not regularly. The colour is similar to Proper Job, which crisped up in the heat and didn't last long. PJ has only been in since March so maybe it will improve when it's more established. Roseanne is aiming for world domination again.Â
@Marlorena I know it doesn’t seem right to keep the window shut, but it works. Here, especially when there’s hot wind like lately, I shut everything at about 10 a.m. and do not re-open untill 10 p.m. I close the shutters too, and I have about 3/4 degrees less than outside.
@Nollie, I can’t get how you have all those blooms with this hot and windy weather. True, I don’t water the garden due to emergency rules, but no rose of mine has bloom (apart from Desprez, with 2 flowers) and the two very little blooms on LoS got totally crispy in a couple of hours (and it is in shade during the afternoon!)
@dabolem Thanks, I hadn’t heard of rose budworm before but having briefly read about it online I do agree it’s in keeping with the symptoms.. just when one thought aphids are enough of a menace now there’s budworm in addition lolÂ
It's the nights that are awful. It's still as hot around the house as it was last night. Been coping okay during the day.
Mind you I spent most of yesterday soaked as we were having a lot of water play at school to keep them all cool - that definitley helped.
As did windows and doors open at the start of the day, closed when it got warmer outside than in - foil on the windows. Fans blowing over bottles of ice.
Some parts of the school had to be completely abandoned though (mobile/static caravan type classrooms) as they were completely unbearable!
@Mr. Vine Eye, I was thinking how teachers were managing with children in school yesterday. I really appreciate it is very difficult with all children feeling so hot.
Nice weather back here. Lovely breeze, there was a bit of rain , that gave the Petrichor (learnt this name for fragrance).Â
My The Prince has reddish new growth. May be it is William Shakespeare 2000!
Lack of blackspots is making all rose plants look so beautiful. Clean and leafed Augusta Louise, Abraham Darby and Gabriel oak.
But I would rather have all that rain and blackspots than this dry and hot weather.

Rachel.. 2nd year.. supposed to be very fragrant.. but I would say medium at the most.. not sure if it will improve with time..
Natalija holds her blooms well in the sun..
Henri Delbard.. huge fragrant blooms..
Austins appearing a bit darker than usual in the heat.. BMS and Golden Celebration..
Julia Child.. always in bloom..
Dioresscence, Scepter, Grafin Diana, Well Being..
We had a few drops of rain which evaporated even before it touched the ground. 😔🥴
