I thought that would be the case for cuttings taken in Autumn but I wasn't sure about ones taken a bit earlier given that's fresh growth within 6 weeks.Ā
If it's a definite no-no I won't risk it but I thought maybe in another month it might have been an option.
Mine had similar growth to yours @Dirty Harry when they went into the greenhouse in September.Ā I decided to see how they looked in March when clearing the overwinter plants, ready for the tomatoes. As it was it was May before this happened ( health issues) but there was little change, so just tucked them in a corner to continue growing. Now they have more leaves, but when split into separate pots this week, they had surprisingly small root growth. So I would leave them to it for now.Ā
@Hilary_15 I have Eye of the Tiger, it has never been without flowers since May. The blooms start off quite a strong daffodil yellow and fade to almost white while the centre retains it's colour. It's in full sun and doesn't seem to mind the heat or rain. The foliage is very healthy and if its not deadheaded produces large red hips.
Thanks for the review of BdJĀ @pitter-patter, there seems to beĀ a lot of HT in Delbardās gene pool, so the tall upright habit doesnāt surprise me, they definitely have a ātypeā. The lack of fragrance is surprising though, I thought it had won awards for that..
Beautiful roses everyone and as usual lovely gatden @pitter-patter
@Nollie I knew that Allister Stella Gray is a climber that become very big, in fact I chose MAC instead. Please let me know how big it gets for you, so I will decide if I can have it or let it go, thanks and Bon Voyage
Finally it did rain here too last night, but anyway I canāt do anything in the garden at the moment because I have to take care of my old little devon rex cat, she came home yesterday from the clinic, where they took all of her tooth away, poor little thing
HiĀ @dabolem.. thank you, hopefullyĀ Iām flying early evening but big storms predicted so who knows!
ASG seems quite vigorous already from a tiny bare root only planted this year and it hasnāt been without some blooms all summer. The tallest cane is about 1.2m and still growing. The plan is to grow it up and along the top of the fence, with two shrubs to the front - Buff Beauty (left) and Lady Hillingdon (right). I did read that it āgrows like a weedā in warm climates so itās possible it will eat everything in itās path!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Buff Beauty is vigorous, isn't it? I got a rather puny specimen and planted it in mostly shade, and it has thrown out two huge new basals, despite being in nextdoor's marauder-cat's flight path and therefore my dog's!
Thank you @WhereAreMySecateurs, she has no more teeth and her mouth aches right now therefore she will find it difficult to eat in the next few days, so I am feeding her with a tea spoon every few hours, besides giving her all the medicines they prescribe. Itās really heart-wrenching as many of you here know well enough.
I thought Buff Beauty was a climber not a shrub, if you let me know how big it becomes with time I may get one too, I need roses that thrive in shady spots.
@Nollie Ā thanks for the ASG photo, a friend of mine who lives in Tuscany has one and hers has become more then 15m tall and about 5m large, but she doesnāt prune it so I donāt know if it can be kept to a more āhumanā dimension. Let me know how it goes with yours, please.

Iām going to miss a fair number of roses coming into bloom since Iām off to the UK for a few days to see family. Iām hoping the bourbons Catherine Guillot and Mme. De SĆ©vignĆ© hold off until Monday. At least I donāt have to worry about watering!
A final few..
