Finally starting to see some good growth on the roses here!
Mary Delany, I think whoever pruned this did a bit of a rubbish job! I’m finding it interesting to see the difference in growth for the climber
Variegata di bologna
For your eyes only, haven’t shared this one here yet, it’s the only rose I took with me from the old house, has some vicious thorns!! This one is earmarked for the front garden (I’ve topped up the compost now)Â
Rhapsody in blue cutting, this one has done the best out of all of them
I've spent th morning giving the rose bed a proper tidy. Mostly involved digging up lots of alliums, they are like weeds! The ground was already looking rather dry too.
All the roses are starting to get lovely buds so won't be long now.
My Rhapsody in use and For Your Eyes Only are getting so big, no where near the advertised sizes. In fact Rhapsody is taller than my climber.
A question for you all. I have been growing a box hedge in front of my rose bed which is now big enough to starting shaping how I want. Just wondering how I can thicken it out on the outside as I need to thin out on the roses side.
@Tack - Those two are Malvern Hills seedlings and there’s another two which are Scarborough Fair - or at least one of them is, the other might also be Malvern Hills. No sign of life yet from the Royal Jubilee seeds.
Lots of growth on The Generous Gardener
Ghislaine bushing out - looks like a jungle when you look to that side from the window indoorsÂ
@AlliumPurpleSensation, re your query re box hedging. I would trim the top level at the height you want and trim the inside edge nearest your roses. The outside should then thicken up as it will be reaching for the light. Funnily enough, I've just dug out most of my dwarf box hedging because the dreaded box moth caterpillar hit most of it and also I was finding the twice a year trimming a bit difficult. Be aware that box is very thirsty so make take more moisture out of your rose beds. You may find your roses need more watering.

Thankyou for the detailed answer. I'll bear the watering in mind.
It will be going if blight or moth appear. Didn't know about either of these until after I'd gone to the effort of getting the hedge to grow.
As the garden slopes it seemed like a nice way to put in some edging!
