I have successfully managed to get two of my fav roses as own roots, the poet's wife and super Trouper. It is by cutting off an offshoot with roots while potting.
I haven't yet managed to root any cuttings. Have been trying Evelyn and munstead woods.
@newbie77 - that’s good! My rose cuttings from that mystery cane we found on the ground haven’t gone brown yet, and it’s been a few weeks. So fingers crossed there’s hope they might root.
Hi all, Sorry to ask for advice again . I was out looking for rose buds tonight (munstead wood , Louise odier and Harlow Carr all covered in good sized buds.. excited) but noticed my Mayflower wasnt looking very happy. Is this rose rust on it? If so, can anyone give any advice on what I'm doing wrong and how to improve?
thanks @Imprevu that is a very nice rose. I have a preference for single or semi double flowering roses. I saw it on PB site but not noted by them as suitable for a pot. Do you know of it being grown that way?
Hi all, here for some advice again. I have a rose (Buff Beauty) in a very large pot - I potted it up today from its nursery pot which it's been in for a week since it arrived. How often should I feed it, and can you recommend the best food for a rose? I have some all purpose empathy liquid feed but no rose-specific feed.
I used a mix of Melcourt Sylvagrow JI3 and MPC in the container.
Am very jealous @Fire of your first bloom, mine are still tight buds. I have lots of good growth on everything now, even my new red climber. I think I will have to transplant a few of those foxgloves though.
My best colour now are my red Darwin tulips, but I did find this odd coloured one among them😁 I do have apple blossom too
@BlueBirder ... everybody uses different fertilizers, but I recommend you get one that contains essential trace elements.. NPK alone is not enough for roses. The compost mix you have should be sufficient until June, but if you want to top up with a small amount of extra fert. no harm in that.
@Rickyjones24 ... I'm not sure if that's rust, you need to check the undersides of the leaves. Whatever, it's really minor and I would simply just pick off anything like that if it's discoloured.. roses get all sorts of leaf issues and are rarely pristine, in most cases where it's minimised, it isn't worth worrying about really.
..this is a rust pustule on the back of a leaf, later it can spread and turn powdery covering much of the leaf... rather blurry pic, sorry.
..and the front... leaves with rust should be disposed of.

if you consider Trier as an option, guirlande d amour of lens could be an alternative https://www.lens-roses.com/shop/guirlande-d-amour-r-13837?order=is_roze+asc%2Cvirtual_stock_for_website+desc&geur_from=NG&geur_to=ZG&min_height=1&max_height=1100&muren=on. I do not have it, but it is a popular rose in our region. ( repeat, scent, flexible , following the site good for a pot) PB sells it in the UK.
I'll certainly add it to the list of possibles
