    They're mostly austin roses - I spotted a few significant suckers on different plants! Hope the gardeners notice them before it's too late...

    The row of arches at Lowther look rather good, even with the unusual pointy bits, not seen that before..

    @andrewnewton
    .. A good sized obelisk gives you more opportunity, but if you really want 'GJ' then go with that, it's fantastic when in full flush and everyone admires it, but it is prickly and not the easiest rose to handle.  In my garden I had a big gap between flushes which irritated me.
    The colour, a deeper, richer pink, is quite different to all the others you've got,  - I've had all those at one time.. Dunham Massey and Harlow Carr are much smaller roses.  'GJ' would soon ascend your support..  several members here have it, as you would expect..

    If there are any other roses you like, just ask about them..

    @Mr. Vine Eye. I'm not surprised there was no rose display at Lowther.
    I live in the south of the county and don't get the sort of blooms the rest of you are enjoying until into June.

    I have pruned late this year due to sorting out uprooted trees until well into the spring when I would normally have been gardening, but even so my roses tend to get going in June rather than May.

    I hope you can make a return visit sometime to see the roses. I haven't been yet myself, but hope to go in the summer, if it arrives!

    Such beautiful borders @Marlorena I love the clematis winding through.
    We nipped to homebase yesturday afterwork, lots of bargain plants, half price big potted clematis and Evison boulevard collection ones too, given the success of Rebecca and the others I chose one to go with mme Antoine Maari, "Yumi".

    My Ebb Tide is quite spindly too @WhereAreMySecateurs I moved it in Autumn to a more exposed spot to see if that helps, its budding happily.

    Thanks for the feedback on Ebb Tide, all. Sounds as though it's a slow starter for a lot of people. It looks lovely beside Love Song, Nollie.

    Ugh at snails inside roses. So that's what happens if you don't plant their first-choice munchables?!

    I would also love Tottering, murasaki, but I'm afraid Emily Bronte and Vanessa Bell will end up in my trolley if I venture onto That Website.

    Actually it looked a bit cute sleeping so comfy in the rose, so i didnt disturb him lol  :D
    But so far snails dont cause any serious damage to roses, dont munch leaves, only flowers.

    Now clematis is a completely different story. Out of over 15-18, only 3-4 are flowering, rest are totally munched up.
