@Omori, that's good. I got a flubbed off response too both about mildew and colour. I can tolerate disease on Abraham Darby, i knew it will be like that and I made an informed choice but very disappointed with state of BMS.Â
@WhereAreMySecateurs, I have learnt my lesson too. No rose before seeing photos here.Â
@JessicaS, yes buds can be dark colour, the leaves are looking like summer song leaves so you have right rose. And good that you have a plant support there.Â
I visited Powis Castle today, a very nice day out. A lot of roses, I will post the photos in batches (when I have time), and also more general photos to the garden visits thread later.
Starting with pillars The 1st two had 'Paul Transon' tag, obviously the same rose as I have and as is sold as 'Paul Noel' 'Phyllis Bide' 'Alchymist', pretty and very fragrant
White rose options - @Discandied, @WhereAreMySecateurs thanks for the reports on Boule de Neige, it is indeed calling me, Secateurs! It’s always hard to know what can stand the heat, but thinner petalled roses fry more easily and BdN looks as if it has reasonable petal substance. If the boule doesn’t ball that’s also a plus. I think I have to try it, perhaps get another SdSA as backup.
I have also been looking at a few more compact options like Gruss an Aachen White and various polyanthas.
@dabolem Desprez de Fleurs Jaunes looks lovely but I thought it was a climber or is there a non-climbing option? I’m looking for a maximum of 4ft (120cm) but I will keep it in mind for my next house!Â
@edhelka wonderful rose garden tour thank you. Those Paul Transon/Noel pillars are fabulous head to toe, skilful pruning? The nursery I bought my tall GdF standard from also had a Paul Noel one that looked stunning, I wish I had room for it..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Clockwise from left: Westerland, Eustachia Vye, Darcey Bussel, Crown Princess Margarita, Super Dorothy, Louise Odier, GdeF, LoS with Brodure Abricot in the centre.
Here is the first bloom on Gruss an Aachen:
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Some deep colour beauties, The Prince, William Shakespear 2000, Thomas a Becket, Young Lycidas and Ebb Tide. They are looking more pink in photos, in real they are all a shade darker.
William Shakespear 2000: Does not bloom much but my mistake as I have it in heavy shade right under a large apple tree. The Prince: New for me, good recovery from what I had got. Thomas a Becket: Becoming huge and floppy but floriferous. Young Lycidas: Crinkly leaves gets blackspots later in season, floppy shrub, large very fragrant flowers and floriferous.  Ebb Tide: Nice little manageable shrub, beautiful little flowers.
One mislabeled rose I had received instead of Royal jubilee. It is growing taller, light coloured leaves, nice fragrant flowers. I thought it will ball too much but it's not too bad. Whatever it is, I like it.

Starting with pillars
The 1st two had 'Paul Transon' tag, obviously the same rose as I have and as is sold as 'Paul Noel'
'Phyllis Bide'
'Alchymist', pretty and very fragrant
'Thisbé' on the left, 'Felicia' at the back, I couldn't find the tag for the front rose... I would guess 'Moonlight' but probably too small for that... I liked it. There are never tags for things I like, lol.
'Cornelia', others in the background ('Wilhelm', 'Buff Beauty')
'Sally Holmes'
Another part of the border
Upright 'Queen of Sweden', red 'Darcy Bussel', probably PAOK at the back
'The Mayflower'
'Scepter'd Isle'
'Wilhelm' again, 'Cottage Rose' at the back... I liked it a lot but it looks confusingly different than the photos I can find of it online.
'Noble Anthony', 'Louise Odier'
