    Has anyone seen a standard to create a kind of arbour - immediate extra height added by putting in a tall tree? I have a high corner between a high arch and a trelllis that I wondered about a rose 'umbrella-ing'  with a standard, such the foliage wouldn't 'weep' much, but be trained along arch and trellis. Any thoughts?

    @Fire I think buff Beauty combined with GdF will look beautiful together.

    I remember the pictures  of armada last year ..and also that I did not find it for sale at TCL or Lens or fils…

    I’m off to mottisfont’s rose garden tomorrow, with a stop off at a rose nursery (pococks roses) for good measure!

    I think it would work but standards are expensive. Maybe using a vigorous rambler and training it from the ground would be more practical. but depends on the spot. Photo?

    I once had an idea about roses on two levels - standard growing through a short obelisk, with one rose on the obelisk and the crown of the standard above it. But I decided against it.

    @Fire, I think a climbing rose would be better in that situation or as Edhelka says, a biddable short rambler.

    That would be interesting too.

    @Omori
    I do like your little pond and messy seat.  I think I would never want to leave that area.

    @Lizzie27
    .. I see you've sorted out your Ispahan somewhat, lovely growing into the tree..

    @zugenie
    Have a lovely day at Mottisfont.  Lots of photos please..

    How high is the tallest standard?

    Does anyone else's Ebb Tide look really spindly and weak next to all their other roses? Not sure if it's my (mis)management or just a poor specimen. It's nothing like my.other floribundas or the vital, healthy bush I see in pictures!
