@raisingirl JJ Chalmers was a Royal Marine serving out in Afghanistan and was severely injured by a bomb blast. If you look at his hands you can see some of the damage that was caused.
I'd never heard of him until he took part in Strictly a couple of years ago, and from that l learnt that he'd won a medal at the Invictus games and has built a career as a TV presenter.

after the initial excitement of an hour long programme , it seems to have degenerated into endless " filler " segments to pad it out .

JJ Chalmers seems like a nice chap. However what was the point of that segment of the programme? The gardening content was minimal and I am glad he enjoys playing in the garden with his children but I do not think that is worthy of a 5+ minute slot.

there was an equally pointless , VERY long segment last year about someone called Kate ( celeb ? ) coping with a poorly husband. GW doesn't seem the right place for such "features "
    Devon.

I agree he seems like a nice chap, but I get the feeling he is being used to tick a number of the PC boxes as he is popping up all over the place.

    The segment is pointless.

What gets me is that this is such a busy time in the garden.

You could show so much. Monty showed us some nice natural supports but why not a few pointers when making them? What about people who have just moved into a new garden or weren't able to tidy up their beds last autumn- how to plan remedial work in preparing for the new season? We watch Monty sowing lots of seeds but how about more specifics on e..g. which seeds will be happy with just a windowsill for those of us who can't afford a load of propagators? Monty mentioned the price of plants so why not info on seed swaps or stalls or other places to get a few bargains? Natural ways to fend off those horrible new slugs that don't involve pellets? Fast growing climbers to cover an ugly shed? I remember him doing a trench of rose cuttings- when and how do we test if they are ready to be checked? It's such a huge and interesting subject. It irks me when the slots are devoid of info because if I were making a show there would be so much left on the cutting room floor, seriously! It's just an hour a week.

and once you remove the fluff, you're lucky to have half that filled with actual gardening
    Devon.
  • Sorry, I'm confused ... I thought we were in the 21st century ... if a chap judged the suitability or not of a female gardening presenter by whether or not she were 'easy on the eye'  he'd be hauled over the coals, and quite rightly too.  What's going on?
I don't often fast forward when Francis comes on...
