Unusually for me I haven’t seen it yet, watched the rugby.
How can you lie there and think of England

I enjoyed it. If I don’t enjoy something it’s normally because I don’t like the plant but I’m still gaining knowledge so I’m happy to watch.

The house in Kent in the field was beautiful. Looked like something from a magical story.

the Kent garden was lovely, but in winter? and where did he park his car?
    Loved the cyclamen feature.
The "green" garden would be lovely to walk round, but I'd tire of it very quickly if it was MY garden. A smaller version within a bigger , more varied garden would be great.

I thought it was a good episode, actually. No jungles, the viewers videos were just people showing us their gardens which is fine (it's the ones where they try to tell me how to make a plant pot out of an old shoe that I object to), the green garden and the cyclamen piece were both interesting, Andy Salter and his garden were both lovely, I've no interest in camelias but I'll let that pass as that's just me. A good start to the garden year  :)

I've just watched it, accompanied by a nice glass of malbec, and I'm very pleased that I didn't feel the need for the ff button (maybe the wine's made me more mellow than usual :) ). Useful "how to" sections, and the cyclamen piece was very interesting (I have some C. coum to plant, must put them well away from the hederifolium). Intersting garden visits, and the viewers' videos seemed better than most of the last few years' ones.
PS here's a funny thing - the spellchecker on here wants to make "malbec" into "becalm" :D)

I enjoyed this first programme (I daren't say owt else after the moan comment at the beginning of the thread), except I still don't like the viewers' gardens. I liked the green garden but the bamboo would give me nightmares.

Hmm. I saw recently that Adam Frost hunts with the Cottesmore. Funny how you can go off people so quickly. Then Monty got in quite a pickle when asked about the matter. (Still like Adam’s garden, though).
I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me. I've never really taken to him, I don't like his smugness.

I'm pleased GW has started again.  Geoff Hamilton will always be my gardening hero but I do like Monty's positivity and optimism.  I hope we see more of Carol Kline  in this series; she knows her stuff and is always nice to listen to.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

I'd like to see Toby Buckland back at the helm.. although I suspect I'm in the minority?

Really enjoyed it.  The bit on cyclamens were instructive.  Who knew not to put coums where you hederifolums are? Loved the garden in the middle of the field - and loved how he loved it too.  He was nice.  The green garden wasn't for me.  I'm not keen on undulating green mounds. Great to hear Monty's soothing tones again - a feeling of all is right with the world.

For once I liked the viewers’ gardens, the first one in particular. For me, the rest of the programme was reasonably entertaining and it augurs well for the rest of the season.

As for the man, the barn and the field, I too thought where is the car? Surely one is almost a necessity if the location is as remote as it seems. I also wanted to know how he seemed so cheerful sitting in a damnable uncomfortable deckchair with no table alongside for the glass and bottle of wine. His garden was stunning.
