I was just joking @didyw, but they went out of favour for a long time, and were being regarded as a bit 'common' for some unknown reason. Like many things in life, as well as gardening, they have come full circle and are now the dog's doodahs and a must have plant   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I think you are right @Fairygirl - but then along came Bishop of Llandaff and away we went!

I bought quite a lot this year as I've revamped my big border and have a lot of space to fill. No other plant I could think of would give me flowers from June to frost for around £2.50 a plant!
  • so Adam has left that gorgeous house and garden? why? he loved it there.and it doesn't seem that long since he moved in.i dif think he looked a bit tired.i do like him

I remember Geoff Hamilton showing Bishop of Llandaff on GW years ago, and talking about what a shame it was that dahlias had gone out of fashion .
Then off we went ! That must have been around 1995, not long before he died, so they've had a good run.of popularity. Must admit l do like the "Bishop" dahlias, and so do the bees.

I suspect in common with many gardeners I couldn't care less what is in fashion or passe, I grow what I like to have in the garden.

As for being middle-class, well I'm a similar size to Ronnie Barker :D
