I may be remembering the past through rose tinted glasses @TheGreenMan (in fact l'm sure of it 😁), but l'm sure that "back in the days of Geoff Hamilton" (my constant refrain), they were forever captioning plants shown on screen.

I was going to say the same thing. I think it actually continued long after GH too. There's no good reason I can think of not to show the names of the plants.
The citrus segment (pun intended) seemed to go on for a week.
I’d rather have more of Monty and quicker, punchier “fanatic” pieces.
It seems very light on presenters this year too so far. I wonder if it’s a cost cutting exercise. Cheaper to send a film crew to Joe Public than to send Carol or Arit somewhere. 🤔
As a slight veering off-course can I recommend the radio programme ‘4Extra Goes Gardening’ … I’ve just spent a delightful evening with Penelope Keith, Gertrude Jekyll, Christopher Lloyd, Perch Thrower etc discussing their lives and gardens, with extracts from interviews and programmes including Christo Lloyd’s Desert Island Discs and Percy Thrower talking about his life and career in Beyond the Back Door in 1963.
It’s available on BBC Sounds and is utterly delightful and will put your world to rights. 😊
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
@Dovefromabove...thanks will check it out...I listen to BBC Sounds more than I watch television these days...had a serious binge of Gardeners Question Time the other day.
We watched it last night and I loved the tulip segment. I think it is more difficult to put the names up of the plants filmed in non-presenter gardens as the owner would have to name them and they may not get it right. I certainly wouldn't - I never remember the full names of the plants in my garden when asked on an ad hoc basis. They probably film far more than we see; it would be a logistical nightmare trying to retrospectively ask the owner to name the plants we saw. We get the name of the plant when the presenter asks the owner (or the presenter knows). I also enjoyed the citrus segment. That presenter did give us names and I liked her enthusiasm. And I like the practical elements from Monty - I can relate to that, even if I don't have the space for a bog garden or big greenhouses to overwinter cannas. I was thinking it might be a bit too early to put them out - but he answered that by saying he'll wrap them in fleece if there is a frost. GW is a treat for me - an hour of winding down. And I love it when I can shout 'tick' when I have already done any of the jobs for the week. Not growing loofahs though.

Likewise GreenMan.
